The site is running really slow since the edit button went wrong last week, but at the same time, I got a Firefox update. Now when the pages change on here I get a black bar accross the bottom of the screen. Making a post takes about 1 minute of wait time.

It's fine for me. I got the update too, and haven't noticed a difference.

I've noticed nothing wrong - but then again the internet here at work is so slow it struggles with SSH terminals most of the time...

Has anyone gotten around the problem with firefox when using the tag buttons? It always puts the tags at the end of the text no matter where the cursor is. I thought maybe someone has found out how to make it behave correctly?

/is gotten a word?

I noticed this too, very annoying some times.

I've got the FireFox update as well, and I don't think this site is any slower than before. But I have enabled Enhanced Prefetching(with FasterFox), so maybe that has something to do with it?

Not in the English language (technically). It is in the English Dictionary though, but noted as being used mainly in America. The more common past tense of "got" is "got".

Is that firefox? It's very annoying, but I thought it was just the forums.

I learned to just live with it but then again I've had firefox for a while(since 0.7x i think) like i have everything memorized

it's a bad problem though because its not just here, its at any forum(or at least the ones I've been too)

Happens with Safari as well. I've just memorised the tags I use most and type them in manually.

Looks like I have some sort of spyware, and popup problem. Not sure what is causing it.

Is Spyware Blaster safe?

Anyway it is most likely something my daughter has installed. It is hard to find. Might be something built into the new MSN Live.

spybot search and destroy
adaware
hijackthis
microsofts one

are about the only ones i would trust. as well as every client i come across.
anything else usually infects you with its own malware until you pay to remove it.

Happens in all mozilla based browsers - something to do with Javascript security I think... Just like how firefox cant access your clipboard by javascript but IE can - so as a rule, dont put ANYTHING in the clipboard that you want kept private and then browse the web with IE

Yes, more often than not those tags don't work properly on forums, however, the notable exception would be that it works for me on my sporting club's website.

if it happens to safari then konquerer KHTML might suffer as well.
safari is not mozilla based and less error tolerant then gecko.

For all you people wondering if it's possible to get the forum tags working properly in FireFox:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=60743&b=20

The simple answer is "yes", but I don't know that Rich will ever be bothered to do it.

Damn I'm getting popups, and I can't stop them. Adware removes a file but then it appears again. Spybot removes two others, but they reappear again. Even after removing them I get popups straight away. I can't track where they are coming from. Hijack This finds nothing.

Anything look odd here....

Like two iexplorer.exe???

Quite possible to have two or more IEXPLORER.EXE - Thats internet Explorer.

Do the usual - boot into Safe Mode, scan whilst in that, do a virus scan too, yada yada yada...

You obviously aren't using a virus scanner that detects dodgy popups...

Mine are all marked as unread

Maybe Rich is updating the forum, just noticed the "toggle" placed on the upper right of each post!

rundll only runs when... yep, you are running a dll

Terminate it.

While I am at it, why are you running IE and Firefox?

Hotsync i think is for palm pilots... my sister downloaded a virus disguised as a pda application before, beware.

Qtask just takes up memmory, turn it off in quicktime settings and delete it's registry entry in like HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\run

But do what was said and boot in safemode... if you have anything screwing up stuff, that is where you should be.

I'm not running IE it is running itself. Half of the things in the Hijack this log have to be removed manually, and I usually just delete the ones that Hijack this suggests.

So I will look for those other ones.

Edit: Messenger Plus was turning on iexplorer.exe, and that was giving me popups.
So Messenger Plus was to blame for my problems.
I uninstalled it yesterday, but iexplorer.exe stayed in memory. I should have rebooted. Everything is great today.

Ive been at work so i couldnt reply, sorry pincho.

some general stuff im pretty sure you can remove
the quicktime and winamp agents could be removed.
adobe gamma loader can be removed as well, set your gamma via your graphics card
along with your hardware monitor settings. true gamma and colour correction can be set with a usb device you attach to your screen and perform a series of tests to get true colour matching. We have one at work, if your not designing for print dont worry too much.

the real update could be removed as well, unless you have paid for realplayer gold etc..

Im not sure what this is:
O4 - HKLM..Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:WINDOWSsystem32NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O4 - HKLM..Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install

however a quick google using the keyword always identifies it.

and i did that for you

this page has a few people who suggest its spyware even though its nvidia updater
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/nwiz.exe.html

however the best advice here is to leave it alone until your completely sure.

im not sure what exp.cmd is but another quick google will resolve it.

if we cant identify it, there are tonnes of website forums like
[href] http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ [/href]
that have great free advice and people who help you through hijack logs if we miss something.

perhaps you have a msn toolbar or something similar with an extra button somewhere as reading these gives me that idea.

O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - Crogram FilesMessengermsmsgs.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - Crogram FilesMessengermsmsgs.exe

sorry i didnt reply in time, sounds like your ok however.

NV* Nwiz are Nvidia they are OK.

exp.cmd is a batch that removes all the temp files each time you boot, so I like that.

The extra messenger button only works in messenger, so that does not bother me, my daughter must use it for something.

I'll remove the other stuff that you mentioned.

Thanks!!
