Well I am starting to do some stuff to my OS code and decided to get a backup program to back it up every night just incase
the problem is I don't have one that works, I need it to work with file extension wildcards, and I would prefer if it could do something like name the backup folder with the prefix as the name and the suffix as the date NOT just replace everything; I don't really care about compression(about 200kb of source i think and over 80gb of hd space)

I'm on dialup so i would appreciate it if it was fairly small(under 20mb) and this is also why I'm posting this, i don't have the time to download each one and try it to see if it has what i need(and feature pages don't show everything)

Do you mean that you are doing programming, and you want to take regular backups of your source code?

If so, then what you need is a Versioning System - CVSNT is recommended (Free/Opensource) accompanied by TortoiseCVS if you're under Windows.

If you mean, you're tinkering with your system's OS, and you want to back up your data to removable media... Then: You are the best backup tool, and about the only one you can trust 100% (unless you write your own )

I'm not 100% sure, but I think SourceForge is only one of many, many different kinds of CVSs...

Like I said, CVSNT is a free program, and along with TortoiseCVS you have direct integration into Windows Explorer

Shouldn't be too hard to get that working.

Once you have it up and running once, you'll know how to do it really easily next time too

Jess.

While we're on the topic, it would be great if there were a backup program that can silently, every night, transfer part of your hard disk to an FTP account. Maybe 100MB a night (which could be set). Then you don't have to worry if one day your hard drive crashed and you forgot to do a manual backup.

Each night it could remember where it stopped and continue from there the night after.

I have more than enough webhost space so this could actually be a good thing for me. Maybe I should make it myself?

Jeku, what you're after is a scripting system... Or a Macro program.

There's HEAPS out there... Basically, you show it how to do something, set some values (using Regular Expressions usually to set up rules), then let it do its thang.

I was looking at a few of these the other day too...

DSynchronize - Primarily for LAN, I think, and not quite a Macro program, but sort of what you're looking for...
MacroMaker - Make Macros
Macro Express - Commercial (30 day trial available) but, looks like a popular one to use...

Have fun
