How long can a laptop last running off the CPU Fan?

Simply put, the main fan annoys me and I turned it off. I am curious how long this will last as long as I don't use any high demand applications.

I wouldn't reccommend that. Laptops get really hot as it is being so jammed together.

i would say 10 minutes as the fact that a desktop with good air circulation with large heatsink lasts 15-20 minutes or more with good air but laptios SUCK. dont do that lol

It has been running for over 6 hours now... and the difference between laptops and desktops is that laptops manage heat better.

The small space that laptops have means that there is on average less hot air PCC then desktops. This also means that you would need less force to clear the air within.

Can I have a serious answer here? I know that air is a very bad medium for transpering heat. There are less molecules PPC then on the solid circuit boards, so eventually it makes sense that it will overheat. I want to know when.

And YES, I do have 1 fan running, the CPU fan is signifigantly weaker then the main and turns on only after the temp reaches x.

You gotta be careful... If there's no safety in the BIOS to shut it down when it overheats, then you can litteraly fry your CPU!

The heatsink will be taking alot of the heat away, but without the fan to cool it down, there's no telling how long that'll last before it too becomes too hot to pull heat away from the CPU!

Good luck

Turn off the CPU fan too.

While you're at it, wrap the whole thing in a plastic bag.

You might want to try running it in your oven for a while.

Let it run for a few days and report back to us.

if a manufacturer makes a fan for a laptop, I would have it running.

there are programs like "rain" that will cool your cpu if your into tweaking.
if the laptop has temp guages and software why not monitor it for yourself.

or something like speedfan

why deactivate a manufacturer fan? noisy?, find a same guage fan but with larger blades,
so it runs quiter pushing the same air.

if that fan is smaller, and you have deactivated the larger fan, causing one fan to do all the work, things are going to get hot and you might fry your lappie or a hard drive, your basically asking for it in my opinion tho.

theres no way for us to know when the thing is gonna overheat.
when it does, make a web site about it.
