I have had FPS creator for 6 months now, but I have not made much with it. After looking at other peoples work for inspiration I decided to commit myself in making an FPS. My new project has only started today. First level is a sort of construction yard with a lot of passages and walkways. I am going to try and include custom media in time. Here are some screenshots...

FPS rate ranges from 25 to 32 so its not that bad.

OOC: Is there like a complete HalfLife Squad around here? I could swear I have seen all 3.

People named "Blue Shift" "Half Life" and "Opposing Force" in the forums...

Just as a general suggest. Try keeping the walls more shadowed, makes it look like the room is lit as apposed to painted a light color.

i agree uman... the bar is being raised... guess it just took a lil time for most of the developers to become familiar and comfortable with fpsc...

Thank you for all your comments.

@Black: I will release the demo as soon as possible. The demo will contain the first level of the game. I still need to polish the level up, finish it and put some objectives in the game. As soon as I've done all this I will upload the demo. The last .EXE that I made of the level was 90MB in size. Compressed to .RAR it was around 30MB so It should not be to big a file size.

Red Ocktober,

Hi Red,

Nice to see you here again.

Of course raising the quality level encourages current users to do the same and will have a knock on affect of attracting more users to the product - kind sprials away if it gets going.

It will take some time - if any updates raise the possibilities for the software and users then that can only add to what we may see coming from users longer term.

Was experimenting a lot with light. I put full light mapping on before I made the .EXE but it would never load. Still looks ok I suppose...

(the JPEG's look a bit blurry and messed up because I used MS Paint to save them)

That looks great! Usually full lightmapping only mess things up so soft lightmapping is better.

The use of the yelowish tint lighting really helps keep your game looking uniform and flow well. It's almost like limiting your pallete but with lighting. More games would look this good if other pick up on this method.

I've been updating some more area's of level 1. Here are some 'improved' screenshots...

for some strange reason when I make an .EXE Light switches won't work and health packs can't be picked up. They work fine within the editor.

Ok, I'm uploading a small demo of level 1. There's no objectives just the level. I've used butter finger's AK-47 model but I will soon replace it with my own model.

Jon, the hex number for the light is 'a0ffc0'

Here is my critique. Awsome Level design! The Frame rate was extremely good at the beginning but towards the end it faltered a bit. The jump over that rail is a bit tricky near the pits and you may want to throw a wall up under neath in the pit area where you walk over one of the grates, because you can see the skybox through the floor. In the first room with enemies (after the first kill), I don't know if it was intentional but a guard was kinda floating above a chair with his head in the cieling. But in that room I did love the suprise guy in the shadows behind the wall. Scared the crap outta me. Oh and just curious, ARe those custom enemies or the ones with model pack 1, cuz um...they had a bit of problems with the ...vertex assighnment..cough, cough...see the pic. But all in all Great demo! Question , were shaders on or off? I give it out of 5.

Ha, Ha! Yeah, somthing is wrong with that model. I got it of fps-files.net ages ago. When he dies it looks like he has an erection. A bit disturbing I know so I am going to change it in the future. Shaders were on. Thanks for the positive comments.

NIK,
yes, those syringes make it seem familiar to all the V-drug syringes in Max Payne, and the way the rooms are designed along with the entities used within them make it look as professional as Max Payne. Good job, OF.

Does anyone know how to change the skybox for each level? I've tried but it just stays with the same one.
