some good models for characters are

milkshape ($25 though, not bad) Milkshape can make good models of almost anything else too.

Photo editors. hmmmmmmmmmm not really sure, about free ones.Don't know off the top of my head.

Those modelers I would recommend.What kind of models are you planning on making??

Hi,
I am a newbie also looking for a 3D modeling program that is less than $300. What file format for exporting is required?
Heard Carrara and old Electric Image are easy to use. I assume bones must be a feature?
