I seek a program for converting audio types, mostly from other formats to MP3.

(Example: MOD -> MP3, Wav -> MP3, Midi -> MP3, etc.)

As I said in the 'Splitting video into audio?' thread:
Quote: "My budget is tight right now so if you know of a freeware utility that will do this than that would be great. "

If a Midi is converted to Mp3 it will sound the same on any machine no matter what soundfonts they have... I think.

I think this is what you want. It's free and supports many file types.

Or Audacity...used properly it can do all that and more, coupled with the right media players.

Audacity
Lame encoder
(Are the 2nd & 3rd links correct?)

Thanks for the help, I'll try these programs out when I have a spare moment.

The singularily best audio converter I've found is the old freeware version of dbPowerAmp. Version 10.1 and lower is freeware, so it's perfectly legal, and it handles conversion between mp3/wav/ogg/wma with bitrates ranging from 56 to 320 via a handily streamlined rightclick menu. *inhales deeply* Effortless... yum

Installer is attached.

Yeah, actually Jessticular was the one that pointed me towards dbpoweramp in the first. Cheers for that, I've never had to use anything else, and it's sooo much faster than opening up some application and poking through endless menus

link to the installer in my post

(Sorry for the double post here...)
Do I need to install 'LAME MP3 encoder' into Audacity before it can convert files into MP3 format?

Quite possibly...

LAME is an encoder that you can use without having to pay liscence fee's, but it isn't included in most packages oddly enough...
It's a breeze to install, though!
