Hi

I am building up quite a large collection of quality games, utilities and demos and I am planning to offer them on a showcase disc which will be distributed throughout the UK (Overseas too, but this will require additional postage costs)

The disc will be either CD or DVD and will contain a large amount of content. It will also be well presented in a nice box.

To cover the costs of production and postage, the fee will be around £3, or £3.25 for paypal customers.

This is only to cover the cost of producing the discs and mailing them out. Hopefully there will be an option to download and burn the disc image file manually for free.

How many of you think this is a good idea, and how many of you would be willing to pay the £3 to get it sent to your door?

Also if you are interested in submitting content then email me at mnemonix@logicstudios.net or post here about it

How nice will this said box be?

It would honestly be easier for me if it was offered as an online download. (And to everyone else who has broadband)

I have already mentioned the fact that it will be offered as a downloadable .ISO file too!

Unfortunately producing them in a nice box and nice disk with fast delivery relies on me getting enough orders to cover costs which may not be feasible, So lose some of the polish and I can probably do it for about 75p all inclusive. It would not be as glossy though but I could do it with considerably fewer people looking to buy.

Post your opinions please

Well, judging by the word "Hopefully" I guess this has not yet been finalized, so I was just mentioning that it would be the best choice.

How big will it be? I have about 400gb bandwidth left for my reseller account, and can host like 4gb more. I would get you the domain name too. (like buy it) Anything to help give stuff away in an organized package.

With Broadband getting faster and faster all the time, it is just too easy to download loads of games, play them, delete them, try some more, etc.

The number of dial-up users is diminshing rapidly and so I don't really think there's much call for it I'm sorry to say.

You will also have to go through all the hassle of finding games and getting the appropriate permissions from the authors to put put their games on the disk.

Are you also prepared for the hassle you will get if you send out parcels and they don't arrive. So much to think about.

I see where your coming from with that. I just thought it would be great if a selection of decent games and utils could be placed before the user. It would also be nice that the developers of the games are getting a chance to have their games distributed further.

If we get quite a few people who are willing to pay for production + packaging then there may be chance of future editions

Heh, what's your timescale for release? If it's somewhere in the distantly far future, then Mikey & I will probably be able to offer at least something...

Anyway, sounds like a neat idea. Just make sure the utils are nice, and i'm sure the orders will roll in. Literally, if they're of the less four-sides persuasion.

Make sure you ask each authors permission before redistributing their games!

Flappy Frog has allowed me to use his Atomz game.
Delgine has allowed me to include deled lite, a 3d editor
Richard Davey is allowing me to use demos from the site.

There is quite a few games on there now, going to get more and then organise it all and sort out a distribution setup

I have. I am NOT selling these games, I am simply redistributing them through different means .

I am getting permission from everybody whose software I include on the disc. Now can people stop asking this question?

Have you gotten permission to ask people to not ask the permission question?

Some rather excellent people have donated between them well over 1000 pieces of media including sprites, tiles, textures and bitmap fonts to be included for free on the disc.

If ANYBODY has more media, games, tutorials, plugins, utilities or anything that they believe could contribute to the disc then please send it along to me. There are a couple of hundred megabytes of space remaining on the disc.

[DBP] Discrete Handwriting (Gesture) Recognition
I just now posted it...
It's not really a full-blown game or app, but none-the-less, it's quite a fun thing to have (and to impliment into games)

Sure, you have my permission for it. When is the ETA for release of this? I still have the audio plugin update to finish up with new features (70% of its done already). Also if you want to add the DarkScript trial you can.
