Recently I´ve swapped my old dvd writer for a newer one, upgraded the firmware of the LG GSA-4163B to version 5 and bought some good quality dvd+r discs (taiyo yuden). I´ve also set the booktype to dvd-rom for those discs to increase their compatibility.
In that process I´ve smegged something up and now any disc fails to write ramdomly. It gets to the end and tries to close the disc. At this point it fails or it doesn´t. More often than not it fails. When it doesn´t fail it produces very high quality burns.
I thought it was changing the booktype but I´ve tried both normal and dvd-rom setting. Then I thought it was Nero but after updating it from version 6.6014 to 016 the problem is the same. I have also tried dvd decripter to write and it does the same thing. I think it might be a problem with the firmware as it´s not the discs (I´ve tired it with other discs) or the programs.
It might be the fact that I updated from an older model of roughly the same drive and that has caused a problem somehow. The main problem is that sometimes it works. And that just doesn´t make sense.
Can anyone help or des anyone know of a good disc related forum where I can ask?

I´ve found out more info. It can write dvd-rs and dvd+rws fine so it must be a problem with the dvd+r discs. Most probably due to booktyping gone wrong.
