Hello,

I am a new Game Programmer, and i want to make games like GTA,Quake2,IGI,Counter Strike etc. Can someone please give me all the requriements and perfomance for Game Programming.

My opinion is:-

If i use C++ as coding Langauage and for 3d Graphics if i use 3ds max and Direct X then is my opinion right?

Waiting for your quick replies.

Thanks

C++ is the faster language, its what the pro's use, and it can be optimised even further by using assembler langauge to do complex algorithums. DBPro is easier to use but slower although great games can be produced using dbpro just take a look at some of the titles that have been/are being made. C++ is faster but harder to learn and you can get some very annoying bugs, I once read a quote by someone I can't remember who said it but it was 'C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot, C++ makes it harder but when you do, you blow your whole leg off'

I find DBpro the easiest launguage to use, I mean how easy can you get with BASIC! Plus you can make practically anything you want! Take alook around and see what has been made! In fact in the program announncements board their has been something made thats a GTA 3 style editor. Have a look! I personally tried to jump into C++ even before I had finished learning DBpro (I still haven't finished!) and I found it a real killer! Even now when I look back its still a killer! No, I am going to wait till DBpro programming is second nature before I dvell into C++ or anything else (except HTML).
Thanks!

If you can program in C++, and can find the correct libraries for game making then you should always go for C++. However, I learned C, but I found it hard to find game code dll's, so I decided to use DB. I am never relly working hard at making a game, just having fun.

DB/DBPro = fun, easy, quick, no hard work.

C++ = Headaches, complications, better games, make more money.

I'd first learn DBPro then C++. With DBPro, you'll learn different things that are helpful.

Well, DBP has its limitations, but you've got to consider, is it better to make a game in DBP, or never make a game in C++? One great thing about DBP is that it saves a ton of development time.

Something else about DBP - once you've learned how to program in Basic, programming in any other language is a breeze. Basic structural concepts apply to all languages.

In addition, making games in DBP will teach you so incredibly much about making games.

Perhaps most importantly, DBP is seldom the limitation for most in making their game. Most often, it's a lack of good game media. No matter how powerful the language, that won't change.

Come see the WIP!

All languages apart from assembler follow the same principles, but BASIC is a very abstract language and because of this learning basic doesn't teach you the underlying principles of software and hardware i.e. how the cpu actualy processes software commands this may seem a little irrelavent but if you want optimised code then you need to know the inner workings of the hardware you are programming. I agree that media is the main failing point for games but if you can write a good game engine and use some basic models for the presentation you may be able to get it published and the publishers may help with the cost of purpose built media.

If you wish you can combine the two languages. You can make dlls in C++ for DBPro thats helps concerning the limitations.

Hell Yeah, I suggest you take DBP for a language, if you wanna make fps games like CS, just jump into FPS Creator, its also a program buy TGC. I have absolutely no idea in FPSC, and im getting pretty good in DBP, my project is attached to my signature, its an example of what a new programmer can acomplish in a few months.

Welcome to TGC,
