Hi, my name is Eureka Seven. You've probably seen me around the forums at TGC, Ozark Games, and others. I've just recently opened a new web site called NinjaSoft Games. You can find it at:
http://www.ninjasoftgames.us.tt/

The site will host links to games, utilities, and other sites that will help the game making community do what they do best. Make games. I have also set up a forum where users can talk about making games, playing games, or anything else that would be helpful or informational to our users.

The forums are just getting started, but we're already building a member base and the site is getting active. Some of our users are well known on other forums, so stop by and say Hi. They'll be glad you did.

Forums: http://ninjasoftforum.proboards107.com/index.cgi

I'm also putting up links to other sites as a service to the community. Sign up at the forums and post me if you'd like to have your site listed. You can also give me any information you'd like associated with the link to your site.

I know there are a lot of forums out there, but I wanted to create a friendly, comfortable place for the community to be able to drop in and chat. I think I've done that. The only thing we're missing now is you.

Drop by and check out the site. And be sure to sign up at the forums, you'll enjoy the company.

Eureka Seven

ouch, your design isnt that good, and your site doesnt even get past basic validation of xhtml... you dont use css, nothing special about it. It doesnt look good at all, really. I dont see why we should go there instead of here. At all.

edit: After looking at the source it looks bad. Frames?!??!? FRAMES. nooooo. It looks like you tried to use a hack to block host ads as well. Sad really...

I have noticed that and i don't know why it does that. the site its self should be in English.

Then...how do they make any money--unless its not a free one, definately looks like one though, because you have a strange domain where your files are go to a frame on a different domain..

Frames were abandoned after xhtml. Try using standards, which makes the site much better, source wise (and display better in all browsers). You dont use CSS, which really can make the site look good. Try and use divs too. I am sorry, but I have more critisism, but try and do those basic things and maybe I will add a bit more.

To show you an example of a site, I made this site for megaton:

http://darkgamestudio.net/megaton/slices

It is xhtml standard, uses css (a lot of it), displays fine in IE, FF, and Opera. This is considered a good practice.

Sorry about the few mess ups on its display, not the latest, and megatons site is down.

edit: Chris...Layers arent that great either.

@Eureka - the design is flawed, but I like its potential.

As has already been said, the code is a mess and you're not using standard. I agree with people's advice on using standards. It doesn't take long to learn and if you get stuck there are many people here willing to help.

@Chris - you do talk crap sometimes! In your post you made on 30th Jun 2006 22:37, you were slating his site for being non compliants and genreally spouting crap about your site. I took a quick look at the site you have in your web button. (http://3drz.com/) and its even worse than Eureka's! Crap design, crap colour choices, crap coding and it doesn't validate either. You're even using Flash 8 to display menu buttons. That'd be fine if the buttons were doing something "flashy" but they're not. Its a barely noticable mouseover effect. What happens if someone comes to your site without flash? What if they cant install flash because they're in a restricted policy machine? Do they lose the ability to naviagte your site completely? Also - Flash buttons are crap for Google - it has no idea how to navigate your site. On top of that your site has no title - which also pisses google off.

I dont mean to be rude, but the day you gain experience on how to make a decent website with a decent design then and ONLY then are you allowed to mock other peoples site by laughing at them.

Er maybe it's temp design maybe i havfe plans to improve it maybe i'm adding text navo on the bottom of the page maybe i like my code like that maybe i'm adding a title and maybe just maybe IT'S GONNA BE SORTED and it's not even on google because i haven't bothered to add it and maybe i don't like the site design of your site either but still i don't go complaining about it

and i wasn't laughing about his site i was just saying so

You dont have to submit sites to google - pretty much makes bugger all difference.

Google has trawled this site looking for content and links. Ever post you make has a link to your site (just as every post I make has a link to mine). Google see this and follows it.

On your side, the fact you have no title, meta data, or in fact any content worth indexing (no offence, site looks like a WIP) so Google hasn't really seen your site as a priority to index. It also has no way of navigating off the home page.

I appologise if my origional post sounded offensive - I just find it annoying when people start spouting off like they know what they're talking about when in actual fact they know very little. By hobby and profession I am a webmaster. I regularly see people saying things are bad but they never qualify WHY. In this post I have seen you spout that frames are bad and layers are better but I'm pretty sure you dont know WHY. You've just heard someone else say it.

Depending on the type of site you're going for - there is a LOT more to it that using frames or CSS or layers... The Design (as in the bit you SEE) is just to make people think "wow thats pretty" but there is NO point having a nice design if your site is uselessly designed in the engine room or in the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) room. Whats the point in having a nice looking site if Google/Yahoo/MSN cant see it or trawl it? Basic SEO is easy (good navigation, meta tags, titles, etc) but the proper top end SEO is something people (often VERY intelligent ones) base careers on.

@Chris: I appologise if I offended you about your site - but on every point I made, your site failed. If you have one in the works then great! But make sure it fits those points, otherwise its another failure.

Well for the design i'm going to try and add some css e.t.c

Well I wish you luck with your site. Advice: I'd do some more work on it - the design needs a lot of work and I see very little content. I'm not critising - its jut I personally think you may have brought your site to our attention a little prematurely

I agree with what Nicholas said to Chris.

Who can slam someone else's site when theirs looks like ass?

The same thing goes for slamming somebody's WIP when they themselves have never made anything worth showing.

Depends... Whats the site for? Will it be to sell games you make? If so - do you have any you can sell? Is it a portfolio site you're gonna use to aid you in employment. I've recently been involved in employing a webmaster colleague and we've found that a portfolio site works VERY well in the candidate favour. Alternatively, is it a blog? If it is - look for the top blog software and use your skills to write a custom theme so it doesn't look so "out of the box".

Personally, I'd like to see someone mention their site and see it grow into a fully fledged one rather than another "hey look at my site" and never hear about it again.

A website can be a VERY valuable resource - its worth investing in. Who knows, if you get enough traffic you could get some adwords onto it and start paying for your beer allowance!

Well basically I will be using my site to sell games and talk about games i am currently making. Thank of NinjaSoft Games as an early Naughty Dog back in the late 80's. they started out with two people. that's basically what im doing. me and my friend are making games and will be selling them on my site. The problem is i still haven't had time to set up my pay-pal account. At the moment I'm trying to set up a self web host so i have enough room on my site to put game downloads.
Quote: "Will it be to sell games you make? If so - do you have any you can sell?"
Yes hopefully/ and yes at the moment we have one game ready for release but as i said i don't have enough space to publish it to my current web host so i am setting up a host myself.

If you're looking for a good host, check out a2b2. They do really goo value VPS's (they're like dedicated servers but you have a small, walled-off share of one). I use them for my sites (dbp-site.com and digitalkiwi.co.uk). As its dedicated, you get root access and can host as many sites on it as you like (pending resource limits). Whats your monthly budget?
