Does anybody know of a program in which u can make .exe files that download a file from a server to install them. Like something that you open and it starts donloading a specific file. I am looking for one so that I can allow people to pause and resume their download of a big game that I would distribute.

Thanks in advanced.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, but most every download manager has a start/stop download function, allowing you to pick up even if the computer has been shut off. Also, for big distros people tend to split the .exe into multiple .rar files, see about that.

gamemaker alex, I sure don't want to be rude. I mean, you're on your way to making a game that's going to make you happy. That's cool.

My question is this - why do you post Realm Crafter questions here? I mean, it's a Blitz Basic product to begin with, so I'm sure they have RC specific help over there. And RC has a forum. It just seems a bit odd to me. I wouldn't ask for FPSC help in the Blitz forums.

I take your question to mean an installer much like Microsoft uses - you download a small program of about 100k, and it downloads all of the big stuff for you. Just get your hands on VS 2005 and make yourself one. On your server, you can have the file broken up into pieces, like Saikoro said. Your download manager will download each piece, invisible to the user. Upon completion, you extract each piece to the same directory and installation can begin.

Oh ok, thanks.
BTW, this isnt for my realm crafter game. I just wanted to see what program those big companies use to distribute their programs.

Thanks for your help

I have someting called XUpdate, that updates your game/app file system based on file version, but its more fore something already deployed to a end-user, not the initial install.
