The name actually comes from a Dick Francis novel, where one of the horses is named Chrysalis. I'd been hanging onto this song for ages (months, actually - no kidding), finally decided to call it finished yesterday, and as luck had it, stumbled across that name *inhales sharply*

So...

Provos - Chrysalis.

A cross between chillout and ambient, mostly chillout I think, but with the deeper pad work you'd expect in an ambient song.

I think it's ambient. Relaxing music. This sort of background music is not my cup of tea however.

Wooha! I love this tune. Very nice music to chill to. Heh, it's funny, but we just had Chrysalises that turned into butterflies...I saw the name and nearly laughed out loud.

Hot ambient tune! Sounds really Diablo 2 (Second act).

Thanks chaps! I did learn the thing about butterflys after I finished the tune, but decided the name still fit well enough.

I like ambient, but your calliope or whatever it's called is too loud and the vinyl loop in the background is a little annoying. Also, there's not really a melody in there that I could find.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds technically nice, but I like my melodies

EDIT:

Still listening--- it's a little jarring the difference between the first 2/3rds and the last third.

I usually don't critique music in detail but I appreciated your comments on my song Automaton 3000 in TDKs forum so I thought I'd return the favour

Ahhh, the second genuinely helpful bit of crit I've received on this track! You are indeed correct, the vinyl loop really ought to be cut out of the intro and only appear with the drums. The entire tune feels out of whack (mix and progression) to my ears, I decided I had to get some feedback or otherwise I'd never get any better.

Oh, and not to seem ignorant, but what's a calliope?

Isn't that the Asian flute that's playing near the beginning? At least I *think* it's technically called a calliope, but I'm probably wrong

So I guess not... it still needs some eq though, it's too res in the h.f. content (around 5k) and too loud around >8. Just couldn't be arsed to do it
