Hey there,
i would juz like to thank the other people who helped me out the other day. Thx guys.

Now, my problem. since the last time, 2/3 days ago i managed up-grade my computer from windows '98 to windows 2000 pro. I start up DB and so far alls well. but when i try to execute some code i get the following Error message
"System Error =[_000_& Direct3D HAL] Failed to create a D3D Device from BackBuffer Surface"

It was working very well until this happpend last night. im so optimistic to use and learn DB, so could u guy plz help?

Ummm.....
juz 1 little detail, i have no idea wot my graphics card is (coz im on a laptop)so if u no where i need to click to find out, that would be usefull.

PS, i typed it out wrong. here s the proper one.
"System Error= Surfaces could not be created _[_000_& Direct3D HAL] Failed to create a D3D Device from BackBuffer Surface"

1 more thing, it even says "surfaces could not be created" if it is just says;
print "hi"
wots up with that???

Why not have a look for your laptop details on the manufacturers site? Without the correct video drivers you'll be very lucky to even get 'print "hi"' working.

Also, what version of directx is installed. Type 'dxdiag' into run command.

i get that error when i try to run db on my laptop too... and it's because i don't have a very good graphics card.

right mouse my computer
choose properties

then device manager

or install a freeware diagnostic program usually best found on a site like www.download.com


it sounds like either a video card problem or direct x isnt correctly installed

i have direct 7.0 on my laptop. dont if that helps any one.

Hmm, don't you need DirectX 8.0a or up at least? 8.1 or something like that.

one thing that i also dont understand is that be4 i installed WINDOWS2000 PRO, it worked fine, wots up with thAT?????

if it wasnt a clean install and some copy over job then the system just may be messed up.

Gues you really need to update your directx to 9. The newest at the moment. Guess that will fix everything.

i dont if if this helps, but when the error message comes up, the screen is white with nothing else, and the title of the error message says "ERROR IN PROGRAM". i would like to thank you guys for the help so far, altho none of them seem to help, sorry. if any one nos wot the technical email address is, that wouold be nice, i cant seem to find it in the manual.

well ive had this exact error before and i got win2k. maybe you havent installed your graphics card? what happened to mine is that it doesnt seem to like Nvidia that much . since i got two graphics cards in my computer i turn both of them on. i doubt you have two cards in there. tell us what your graphics card is.
