Me too...

Good lord, I just added it all up!! Around $546, and that's not counting that $20 donation I made to NGC. I'd better start making some kind of profit soon, or I'm toast...

hehe im above teh $400 mark and still have problems with setting up animation loops in DBPro...

Im so sad...

I should probably learn how to use all of this software O_o...

I dont even knkow where to start with DBPro, i try the tutorials but just end up copying and pasting and making my own media... Ive got this really pimped out monster hunter game tho XD

DarkBASIC Pro $90
Dark Matter $40
Texture Maker $40
Geoscape 3D $80
3d Canvas $70
Cartography Shop $65
Milkshape 3D $25
Photoshop 5 (yes I love it) $65 these days
Corel Painter Classic :free
FRAPS like $15
Sonar 4 (my dads) upwards of $600
ULEAD PhotoImpact and other software by them, about $100

TOTAL : $1190

Holy crap...
I didn't purchase most of this, as most of it was gifts or just spread out over a long period of time. I didnt even realise I had that much money worth of software.

Me three

I overpaid for DBP and got ripped off with Quikly. Including Torque, VS C# .NET 2003, Game-Maker (DOS Version from 1993), and miscellaneous odds and ends I'd put my figure well over $600.

I've spent $170 on DBC, DBP, and 3DWS. I bought NGC 2.03 for $15. So that's about $185 on TGC related stuff. Now, if I were to add up all the software I've purchased.....around $1000 just in the last year or so.

The only TGC product I've bought is DBClassic. I prefer to prize them from TGC in compo's - compo's is a good way to stay cheap in this field.

But I spent about £500 on modelling software, I've probably spent more than that on development inspired hardware and stuff since getting DBC.

LOL!

I spent around $150-200 a month on games... I don't think I should work out how much I've spent since I started, enough to buy a 1 bedroom flat I expect

Hmm. Good question.

DBClassic - £40
DBPro - £50
3DWS - £60
3D Canvas (Absolute waste of money) - £45
Milkshape - £25
Ultimate Unwrap 3D - £30
Fraps - £25
Gile[s] - £40
Corel Photo Paint 8 - £5
NGC - £8

£328! Not bad for this sort of hobby. I've spent more than that on my RC car in 2 months. (cant afford to anymore!) PhysX will be added to that when it comes out.

DBC - £40
DBPro - £50
Cloth pack - £20 (or however much it cost)

That's it. Have spent way, way more on film software: DB is a very cheap route!

Looking at what you people have payed, I might bring myself to chip out 60$ for darkphysics

If I count books, developement tools(DBPro, etc...) and my comp+upgrade, it'll be a little up. A chance I dont have a wife still young:

Developement tools:
DBC: 50$
DBPro: 70$
Music Maker: 70$(If I remember well...)

Books:
Begginer guide to DB: 73$
Programming Role Playing Game With DirectX: 46.83$(Not the same book because it is second edition, but I'll put it)
Visual C++ 6.0: ~50$ dont remember well.
DirectX 9: ~50$ too.
C++ for dummy: ~30$.
Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 9.0: 36.82$ (My favourite)

Computer:
Computer itself: 650$.
Graphics cards: 300$, but with a reducation of 100$(had luck to get it like that)
Monitor and speeker: My dad gave them to me.

~Total: 1326.65$

It is just the comp part, C++ for dummy, Visual C++ 6.0 and DirectX 9 that are in CND, if someone can give me the rest in CND(because it is actually US), I could give the real cost with TPS and TVG(Taxes).

I onlt have DBC which was £20 in PC world. It was £10 cheaper than 3D game maker, so it was a bargain.

I'm getting DBP at the end of the month, and I'll probably get some of the add-ons and plugins soon as well.

As for media, I use gimp, and blender which are both free. I'll figure out animation and music when I get to it.

So uhh, yeah....£20

£20 - DBC
£15 - DBP (I looove amazon )
£24 - Hexagon 2 (offer)
£50 - TrueSpace 5.2 (offer)
£10 - Cinema 4D CE 6 (Promotional offer)
£55 - Torque Game Engine
£20 - 3D programming All in One book for Torque (arrived today)
£20 - The Games Factory (I did a while back)
£? (Price of DM) - Dark Matter (I wasn't always a 3D modeller you know)
£6/Month - 3D world Magazine (sometimes came with free software)

So lets add that up...

£214 + Dark Matter + the bottom 2

£50 DBPro
£30 Ultimate Unwrap3D
£10 Character FX
£20 PaceMaker
£20 Monster's AA Plugin
£30 Gile[s]
$20 Donation to Wolf during the Tokamak days (yeah, you thought I'd forgot )
£100 Various books on game programming

Even though I'm yet to do anything productive with all of that, it's still the best £250 I ever spent.

This thread is quite interesting. Everyone here who has parted with money is happy about it (mostly) and I figure that's because they're mature. At least, more mature than the others. If you remember, there were a spate of posts not too long ago where people complained about how much tools cost, and the fact that DBPro should come with modellers, animators, paint programms, sample media... etc

This thread should be stapled to their heads.

Truespace 5.1 and 6.6: ~$300
Gamespace: ~$200
PSP: ~$80
DBP+Expansions: ~$150
Books: ~$300
Poser 6: $150
Hexagon 2+Membership: ~$99
Dark Matter 1: $39
FL Studio Express: $49

That's a little over $1300. Then again, I've been into this for four years now, so I suppose that's resonable. I don't really buy anything else with my money.

I spent over £500 on them in the past.. an expensive hobby LOL!

The things I have bought from TGC themselves is:

BlueGUI
DarkGameSDK

But I bought Db pro/DBC from amazon ages ago.

I tend to spend a lot of money on my hardware, after all I can create the software

I have spent thousands, however only to always double my purchase profit or more, the best return in profit was milkshape $35 AUD.
converted to $900 for a model of armour for a television documentary.
I had to pay $50 to render the model in 3d studio max at a work studio, so from 85 to 900 is a great profit margin.

I have yet to make a profit from dbp/dbc but im still in a learning phase, plu i dont want to ruin my hobby for profit.

Im buying maya7 / fcp5 / motion2 / dvd pro3 / shake this week for about $3000 AUD. the first CG job will pay for it

Wow, how did a television documentary studio choose you to make the model?
