seperate your huge level into smaller peices,(x files)
then make a for next loop that hides & excludes them if there a certain distance away from your player.

this can also be used with static or ai objects.

works great for me.

From 5.9 onwards, there is automatic occlusion. As long as you design your level well, areas will be automatically excluded when they are out of the line of sight.

Advanced Terrain also does this automatically.

It was a feature that was brought in through FPSC. As far as I can remember, it started off as a command, but is now automated. It relies on good level design, ensuring that different areas are separated by walls, ceilings and obstacles. If a particular section is totally hidden from the line of sight, it's excluded.

I wrote a neswletter tutorial on FPSC levels in DB Pro. If I remember correctly there was an option to go into wireframe mode, and you could see the occlusion in action.
