First of all you are going to have to get yourself a program called Deep Exploration. For all you savvy people out there it's done by Right Hemisphere, the guys who make Deep Paint, the best program for texturing. Anyways heres the link to Deep Exploration.

After that you'll need a plugin for it to adapt to Maya, so head over to

Although, maya's texture editor is perfectly sufficient, and you can export to direct x using the microsoft direct x exporter or the x exporter on the nvidia website.

I have Maya6.5ple and although it has taken a while, there are not too many problems exporting to FPSC.

I had a play with 7, but to be honest it's much less stable.

Maya doesn't have a very good texture editor at all, but through Deep Exploration you can do a conversation to allow you to play with Deep Paint and Zbrush...
