Ignore the cheesy title. I'm in the basement of Eastman and it is freakin' sweet. We've got access to the Sibley Music library, it's so massive it's ridiculous. We've take a bunch of classes, but the coolest is that I got into the advanced theory class so we get to work on writing a two-part invention while we're here. It's...just...so COOL!

Seriously though, everone here is smart, I love this scholarly aura around here.

I love Rochester. Make sure you visit the riverside area, it's gorgeous, especially in the fall. And use this as an opportunity to get out and explore the rest of NY too If someone invites you to take a road trip to Turning Stone, don't turn them down! Also, you're in close proximity to Niagara Falls, and I strongly recommend you visit it on the Canadian side before September. I think you're about an hour away from there, and if you've never seen them, now's your best chance The fastest way to get to NYC from there (I think) is to take I-90 to Syracuse, 81-S to Binghamton, then you're just an hour or so away on 86-S/ 17 to NYC, and you'll definitely need to visit the Big Apple before you head back to Arizona!

You mean there's a subway system where every subway line on the map is the exact same colour?

Man, the tokyo subway line...simple isn't it?

last time i went to new york all the subways were just yellow and white with letters...

also, dont open up a map in new york. you will get shot and will get ciggarettes thrown at you.

also at ^^

Ich bin heiss is incorrect if i recall correctly. You might want to look at your adjective endings.

hahaha I threw a cigarette at someone once in Manhattan, but it was someone I knew, not some random tourist We got into an arguement on the corner about a fictional bout between Roy Jones Jr. and Lennox Lewis, and I'm a hardcore Roy Jones fan, so parliament to the t-shirt

Good lord Jake, if you talked about Vancouver a lot I wouldn't rip on you for it Besides, since the Giuliani years (he was the mayor for a while, and a decent one imo) NY has cleaned up tremendously. I'd still suggest you keep your guard up, but no more than you should in any big city. The murder rates are down and crime across the board has decreased to somewhat normal levels. There's tons of cities out there that are more dangerous to live in than NYC... as long as a building doesn't collapse on you, which happened a few days ago... but that's rare! Anyway, the only dangerous part of NYC is Queens, and that's because there's a lot of cattle there (apparently) and only one man to herd them all.

Heheh I was just poking a little fun, Matt It's sad to say, but my impression of the subway is the scenes from Adventures in Babysitting when the gang guy throws a knife into the guy's shoe.

I'm sure the subway has cleaned up quite a bit since then.

The SkyTrain here isn't your typical walk in the park either. We have the Symphony of Fireworks show coming up here soon at English Bay, and last year people were starting fires on the train cars

Wow, Adventure's in Babysitting! Classic cinema, hehe. When I was a kid that was one of my favorite movies But I'm positive it didn't take place in NYC... I think it was either Chicago or maybe Los Angeles, but I'm pretty sure it was Chicago. From what I understand, it's more dangerous in Chicago now than in New York. But the traffic, pfft, cakewalk... milkrun Once you've driven in NY, Philly, and Boston, you can drive *anywhere* hehe. omg Boston's traffic STINKS, it's worse than Florida and New Jersey combined. I haven't been there in a while though... I wonder if they've finished the big dig yet?

Yes they have and 2 days ago part of it collapsed on a newlywed couple killing the wife, like a 3.5 ton piece of concrete. They hung the concrete like a drop ceiling to make the tunnel look nicer.

Ahem, well, yes, ours is like that. In fact, our lines change colour midway through to show the different zones and price of the tickets. Of course, it's not a subway and you're hardly going to get confused with a map as simple as this:

I haven't seen that movie in YEARS. I understand there's a game about it now by Rockstar. I think they shot most of that in Coney Island, where they shot "The Wiz" as well. Michael Jackson saying he doesn't have brains, CLASSIC.

You think your subway/train loop is simple? Our must be the simplest in the world (for a large city):

http://translink.bc.ca/Transportation_Services/SkyTrain/

There is only one branch in the path.

I *hate* London's underground. And what's with the seats opposite each other so you have to look at people? Well, 99% of the time there is no room to see anything. Yuck. Hate trains at the best of times...

And it can be confusing.

(Probably the) simplest Underground/Subway - and one of the oldest (1896).

Glasgow Underground.

So how do you get to the bits in the middle? Unless "River Clyde" is actually a huge underground rail system.

I'm thinking via canoe.

There was a jazz ensemble set up in an alley next to the coffee shop last night, good times.

They are scottish. The river is probably 50% proof, so they most likely drink and fight their way to the middle.

They do that in Binghamton too, I love it. Do they do POPS symphony in Rochester? It's so cool... they have this entire symphony set up along the walkways near the river here and they play classical music until midnight. It echoes over the water and you can hear it all the way up to my house I know they do the same thing in Albany and in Ithaca so they might do it there, too, you should look into that

Probably the oddest thing about that is, although your lines intersect, it doesn't look like it actually joins up. Therefore, if you wanted to go from Broadway to Commercial Drive, is it true you'd have to go all the way around the loop?

No, the Broadway and Commercial drive stations are at the same terminal--- you just need to get off the train, walk down the platform and take the train at Commercial.
