of course you did. None of my friends ever question my knowledge of starwars. I also know some stuff about Babylon 5. I used to have memerized the entire Starwars.com databank, but that was before they added all the knew stuff, now i don't know most of it from disuse.

It's a modern myth set in a completely removed scifi universe. It's not the future or around here, it's "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away." So right away you know none of the rules apply.

The original was ground-breaking in so many ways, but one way that is often overlooked was it was the first scifi film to really create what Lucas called a "used future" meaning the high-tech stuff was stained and dirty as though it were really used daily by the characters. Compared to something like Star Trek where the sets are really antiseptic.

I don't think there has been a movie franchise that changed or effected American pop culture as much as the Star Wars films. But that doesn't mean anybody has to like them. They're best taken not as Scifi, but as a mythology about inner struggles set in a scifi world.

Also I think the most important character is the guy in episode 2 who says "You wanna buy some death sticks?" to obiwan in the club.
