For those of you who thought Terragen made realistic landscapes, look at this: http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/tgd/index.shtml

It looks beautiful, some of the most photo-realistic landscapes I've ever seen

Wow!

I always liked Vues Du Esprit, always thought the renders in that had a lot of class, but those desert cliffs are just what is needed in skybox rendering.

Damn we need to break away from grid matrices, they're so samey and limited, I want cliffs and caves damnit! - and I don't want to model them!.

Think the new Terragen will have a mesh export? - I only ever used the original for rendering skyboxes, but imagine if you could take one of those terrains and export it for loading in DBPro, that'd guarantee one customer right here.

It's going to have to have some sort of unique export function. The old one must've used grid matrices, cos it exports heightmaps, so maybe they've added a unique export function for this.

On this topic, I wonder if you could export something similar like a heightmap image for terrain like that, but use colour instead of greyscale to signify overlapping such as cliffs?

Ahh, like a normal map, in greyscale it would look like a heightmap, but the extra colour components act like interference - strong green might signify that the vertices on that section stretch out to the right, maybe strongest shade would keep the cave going while still storing the ground height above.

I wonder who would I have to kill to get DBO export added to Terragen

[Edit]: Made a typo in my last post, meant to say "it's going to have to have some unique export option". I don't know if it does or if it's planned, just thought I'd make that a bit more clear.

Yeah, something like that.

Problem I think would be with dbo export is that the polycount would be off the scale, unless you could have a jpeg-style "quality" option
