Hello everyone I was just wondering what the best 3D modeler was. I would perfer it to be able to export to directx format and have a unwrapper. And naturally I would like it to be free but it doesn't have too.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

In the 3D board these get locked...

But officially, I think Milkshape 3D is a good modeller but you have to pay 20 US Dollars for it. Costs nothing compared to the likes of 3D Studio Max, and other modellers comparable with its quality. MS3D also exports to almost all 3D formats known, there are still a few it can't do, but DirectX format is supported...

Wings3d does unwrapping using 3ds export then just either make a plugin for .x export and post it

or just use a converter

Wow. This is probably the 7th topic about this that I've seen. Search it next time, please.

I personally use anim8tor.

But don't take any advice from me. I'm terrible at modeling

Gosh, I thought anim8tor was way to hard, I got the free version of
milkshape 3D it is the easiest.

I also suggest
Zanoza Modeler (Zmodeler) (Freeware)
4D Blue Preview (Freeware)

They're all great modelers.

IMHO, 3dS is the best 3d modeller out there (tho even I'm not willing to shell out the bux for that); it's very powerful, and easy to use (albeit not easy to learn for your first experience with 3d programs ^_~). I've fiddled with Milkshape a little bit, and found it not to be to my liking. Blender is very nice and powerful, but it's also got a bit of a learning curve. Lightwave and 3d Eye were also pretty good (during their heyday)... dunno if they're still around anymore. I've also used Zpaint (I think that's what it's called), which is truly unique, as a 2d/3d painter/modeller hybrid. In the end, tho, I use Bryce (my second 3d modelling program) and 3d Canvas.

Famous Last Words:
...oh, it's only a horde of skeletons, I can take them on single handedly. I'm lvl 20!
