Im not sure when the next update for the forums is coming but I think I've come up with a fairly good idea for a new forum search, it'd help the newcommer's get their answers so much faster.
The idea came up from
this thread, but Ill quote what I said from there below;
Quote: "Might do good if Rich or Lee implemented a user-defined keyword database for each post. The default keyword would be set to the thread title, but then users ahve the option of adding to the keyword list for that post if they think it's not descriptive enough. Then the search feature would go through all of the keywords for each thread instead of the topic titles. Ofcourse a limit would be put on the amount of keywords allowed, and Im sure not many people would get by too easily adding in useless keywords.
It wouldnt take too long to add a word or two to the list so Im sure users would take the time to help out, atleast some of the older ones looking to clean up the forums a bit.
"
Quote: "While Im at suggesting this, I know there's been mention of implementing a "Threads Ive Posted In" feature, but using the above method there could be a second database containing all of the user's that have posted in the thread, and then an option in the search to either search for keywords or user ID, that way instead of just being able to find threads only we've posted in, users could quickly search up on a post of someone elses. For example someone saying "I did a post a while back on limbs", the user would then just search that user's ID to find the post."
With a keyword system like the above, even if the thread title was complete junk ("Why..?","I need help","Shouldnt this work...", etc), users would be able to add thread-specific words to it. There might not even be a point of having a "keywords" list, the words user's enter could just be added to the end of the thread title. With this combined with the planned "Threads Ive Responded To" feature coming for the forums (I think thats coming atleast, I remember hearing about it), people could find any thread they want.
The forums are already a great resource for info' so this isn't really a pressing matter, I just think it'd help big time. Anyone agree?
