About a week ago there was an old 30's Diamond T Fire truck at my/my brother's work. The fools were willing to give it away to the first person offering any cash at all, so my brother was quick to pay for the towing (sp?) to our house.

Its in amazing condition for it's age, from alberta. We're almost positive it's the last of it's model since all of the museums say there's only one and it's currently missing, though the previous owners gave it a paint job and added a few things (replaced the clock, that things worth so much to ) to use in some parade, but we'll be working day and night to restore the baby to it's original condition. Surprisingly after some fine tunning, a lube job and a car boost the thing ran perfectly, took it for a drive around the block ringing the siren

Anyways, some pics';

And the pic of what we think is the original model, and pretty sure (a good chance) it's the actual truck as well);

(Click images to make bigger).

According to a few pro's at recovering/restoring old vehicles, the truck as of now could go for 10 smackers, but if restored somewhere in the 50 range...not bad for paying $40 for the tow job (though ofcourse it'll cost quite a lot to restore it as well).

Should be fun.

Thousand dollars

My bro might get lucky, Im going to a camp I go to yearly with my friends and there's an old truck in the forest there, pretty much nobody knows about it. If it turns out to be a Diamond T I might be able to grab a few parts the firetruck is missing.

<EDIT>

Forgot, I took a bunch of ref pics a few minutes ago, like 100 or something, bro' wants me to model it before and after, hehe.

noice! too bad its missing a ton of hardware, and the dumbass radio station painted their logo on it (Q107). I am assuming its a radio station?

I forget what it is but I dont remember hearing a radio station, though it sounds like it. Amazingly, it has almost all of the original dials/meters, the same clutch, peddles, steering wheel, horn, all original. Even cooler (to me), in the back there's a bunch of compartments, and in one of em' there's the original fire hose and a tarp, and in another one of the original fire boots. Those alone should go for a hefty piece.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. In this country a smacker is just a single pound. So 50 smackers is £50. No doubt you fools lifted it from us and butchered it into an unrecognisable version of its former self ... i.e. multiplied it by 1000. Damn you guy! Damn you!

haha. But more appropriately, cool project. This is the sort of thing I'd love to do but unfortunately i dont know enough about cars to do it. Always wanted to buy a knackered Skyline and fix it up - obviously this a far more hardcore mission. Good luck man.

Same here matey. "Grand" for 1000, "ton" for 100 normally. I've not heard "large" very much. That's probably more American. I've hard Smackeroos and smackeroonis, but to me smackers is really what you give your mrs in the bedroom during roleplay .......

Lol, here we call that:
"A good crack in the mouth, woman" or
"Two slaps across your f*ckin' mouth, because I like ya"

I think it depends more on the context than the people saying it. If your pay check is for $600, you'd say "eh, $600 bucks." But if you're in AC and you hit big at roulette and win $600, then it's 600-large For thousands, I usually hear "k" moreso than "grand" but that's more from people of our generation, my parents always say "grand." Stupid question of the year: what is the "k" for anyway? Someone will say it and it'll be something blatently obvious, that or it stands for something I've never heard of, then I won't sound as stupid lol.

Did you ever look at the military vehicles on E-bay? They have tons of nifty old-school vehicles, like 1930's halftracks and stuff. If I had the money to burn I'd probably buy that stuff and make a cool WWII movie

Same as KB I would imagine. Kilo = thousand. Kilograms, kilobytes. Kilodollars!

Not to worry, Oxford says it's derived from the Kirobikiwakaduck, an old tribe hell bent on killing any animals wit bills. Bills leadsto money, there were precisely 1000 Kirobikiwakaducks, and so it was born.

Things are looking a bit iffy for the truck. My brother wants to keep it, spend the 10-20 years working on it, and possibly either give it to his son or sell it then. My parents on the other hand think he should cash in the 10-15k he can get for it, since that alone is a huge earning for spending next to nothing for the tow. Especially since he's been having a few money troubles recently. Sure hope he keeps it (damn, modelling this thing is tiring, especially when everything has to be to scale .)

Wow, nice condition for its age. My dad likes to fix up old tow trucks from the 1950's, And I got to help somewhat, gotta say its alot of work but in the end its really cool to take a look at your fully restored vehicle. So far He's got 3, moving on four soon, sometimes I do wounder. Cheers, and good luck.
