While downloading the beta version of Windows Vista, I found that Win XP Home (that's what I have) doesn't like to download 3.12 gb.

Isn't that crazy!

Are you running under FAT32 or NTFS? FAT32 has a single file size limit of 2GB, which would explain the weird negative value.

NTFS. I went to sleep last night, and my computer automatically restarted due to updates, and I lost my DL!!!! That makes me so mad. Time to find an accelerator.

Yes, it gets very annoying. Unfortunately you have to change the Update program settings to stop that.

Yep, now I choose when to install the updates now

I still think that the downloader wasn't programmed to handle huge files. That's why the time, percent was wrong (I hope the amount downloaded was correct though)

Doesn't the download site (at least the official one) recommend you use a download manager? It even offered to automatically install it for me It was pretty ugly, but did it's job.

It should be able to handle it - perhaps it got the initial file size wrong...

Why are you updating anyway? Don't you want a fast OS or something?

Its good to start looking at Vista now, as you can then see what works and what doesn't

mmm. I thought the max for FAT32 was 4gb. The max for a dvd in iso format is 2gb. Might be worth getting a download manager for such large files. I use fash get.

the limit for fat32 is 4gb because 32bits=4gb(31bits=2gb)

probably should get a download manager for 1gb> files and for smaller stuff use firefox

Nah, Internet Explorer has an internal limit of about 2 or 3 gig. Nothing to do with filesystem.

Similar sort of limit with FF and mozilla (but slightly bigger if I remember)

lol. I downloaded it, but decided to use Virtual PC instead of installing it on my "PC" Since MS is giving it away. I'm having trouble with it, but I'm determined to get it to work! I wrote it to a DVD thinking it was an Rw, but realised I had put in an R! So, I guess, I'd have to waste another dvd if I wanted to burn at a lower speed. VPC is actually really cool. I installed XP pro to try to maybe do an upgrade instead, but it doesn't like running the setup, so now I'm updating the OS itself before installing Vista. lol.
