I wonder how many people actually got this one?

I thought the Fiero forum might go something like this:

Could anyone please tell me why WRX's are so popular? I know lots of people who think it's the greatest car engineered but personally I think it looks bulky and ugly and would rather go with something much sleeker.

4-wheel drive, 200-300hp depending on model, functional ram-air hood(i think). Actually, pretty decent cars, once you get past the ugly headlights. I think they have a turbo too. A friend of a friend has a wrx with about 600hp, sounds quite nice.

The problem with WRX's are that people often think its a really cool thing to do burn outs with them. They forget that you're transferring something like 300bhp upwards into the ground using a car with phenominal grip. If those tires decide to grip rather than spin, you're loading all that power through your clutch and gearbox. If there are any manafacturing defects, thats one sure way to expose them!
You'll either accelerate VERY quickly of hear lots of bang and grinding from under the hood/bonnet (depending which side of the pond you're on).

I actually had a fast passanger ride around one of the tracks in the UK (forget the name of it). The acceleration and grip those things have is unbelievable! You're constantly thinking:
Quote: "ok... you should break about now... Ok maybe now... OH GOD WE'RE GONNA CRA... oh we're fine."

(and this was in the rain, hence me having the ride in a WRX rather than a single seater)

Yep. My friend has the BMW one below the M3; not bad speedwise I suppose but should see the back end almost lose it like no tomorrow going around a bend at speed if a small amount of water is on the road. I don't even notice it.

And if you don't like the headlights then get an older model. Mine was just before they made them look like frogs. Hate the newer models, so will probably move to Evos when the time comes (soon).

Bit annoying now though that there is more and more Barryboys (morons who traditionaly do up Novas to look like spaceships and move slower than snails) are buying the older Scoobies as they become more affordable. Considering half of them must be about 17 then their insurance must be amazingly high (17 year old I know is paying £1500 just for a stupid shopping trolley Nova). Still, rich as pants area down here (next to Ascot and Windsor) so I assume their daddies are paying.

Cheers

I've heard the stories, probably why most ppl dont like racing in 4-wheel drive cars.

Scoobies?

lol, I just got my insurance bill for the next 12 months and I was happy cause it dropped way down to only $1500. And I'm in my 20's with no accidents.

Hi there.
If you want something ridiculously fast at a decent price get a motorcycle. My gsxr600 will do 0 – 100 mph faster than practically anything on four wheels, I can keep it in my hall which I feel counts as an integral garage and my insurance is £230 including two other bikes (cbr600, XT600). Oh yes and the top speed is around 157mph in the book although I have discovered that I am only capable of 145mph, any faster and I start to leak fluid.

I like cars too but I have never been able to afford a really quick one so I don’t know what that would be like. Best car I ever had was a Seat Cordoba coupe but it was my other halfs really. Now she has a Daewoo Lanos. My house has been declared a safe haven for rice puddings everywhere.

In the future we will not spank the monkey, the monkey will spank us.

I'm on about that - 23, no accidents and it costs me about £800 (~$1500) to use something like a Rover 25 1.4 petrol base model.

@Dazzag - which bit of that area are you in? I took my girlfriend to a hotel down that way on Valentines weekend... Was in Ascot.

I haven't. People who love rear wheel drive cars (BMWs for example) are fooling themselves. These things feel like they are glued to the damn floor. As for your standard 4x4 cars (ie. stupid big things that mothers and americans drive) then of course. Never in a million years. Or an auto. Or an estate. Or a diesel (yeah, yeah, lot better now, great torque in 5th blah blah blah. Ever heard of nice sounding and smelling engines and perhaps dropping a gear to leave you behind?).

Quote: "Scoobies?"
Standard nickname. Basically scooby doo makes a sound like the manufacturer's name when he says his own name.

Quote: "If you want something ridiculously fast at a decent price get a motorcycle"
Obviously. Makes me laugh sometimes when people think they can get anywhere near a motorbike in a straight line, pretty much without exception to any car they drive. But I've never liked motorbikes. Don't know why, but to me there is *something* about cars. Most similar thing to feeling about women Know that sounds odd, but this is a geeky forum and it's far better to say that than getting faint over an overclocked P4. But I never felt like that for motorbikes. They just look like a *bike* with an engine strapped on. Fast sure, just not visually appealing to me. ie. it's not all about going fast. After all I could have got faster (TVR or an Exige looked good, but couldn't live with the breakdowns... might change my mind...).

My uncle was mad about motorbikes though. Used to go to all the meetings all around Europe. Got in a few scrapes though and eventually broke his back or neck (the one that isn't the one that is most likely to **** you over and kill you). Decided to listen to his wife once he recovered (she had been nagging him for like 20 years since he cocked up his leg in a crash) and buy a car. Unfortuantly he knows nothing about cars though and bought an MX5 (lives by the sea; nice little convertable... makes sense...). Was most amusing when he decided to go to a bike meet in it. No-one had told him the image it had in the UK

In Bracknell. Literally just around the corner from Legoland. Infact I live right next to the lookout (forest walking place with all those assault courses) and that (apparently really well known) Coral Reef swimming pool complex (big slides and wave making stuff etc).
