Since DB doesn't run on linux I was wondering what was the recommended BASIC language program for a Fedora Core system? And while where at it, whats the best C++ program for linux? Thanks... I'm quite a noob at this whole linux thing . Getting it installed was... interesting . But give me a break, I was trying to dual boot on two different drives!

c and c++ compilers are virtually native to the os when it comes to linux / unix

http://gcc.gnu.org/

you can compile c and cpp stuff on the command line.

as for a basic language,i wouldnt recommend one.

Theres PureBasic and BlitzMax - the later is geared more towards games, has only 2D stuff (the GUI has to be brought as an extra).

Come to the last Unofficial DBPro Convention (http://convention.logicstudios.net/)
Dont do anything I wouldn't do. But if you do, take pictures.

I'd recommend PureBasic - you buy a single licence and are allowed to download versions for Windows, Linux and OS X - Amiga OS was supported but is no longer updated.

Yea, I saw a bunch of stuff for C/C++ already. I downloaded Kbasic and tried it. It's like Visual Basic only using the Basic coding and something they call "New basic." But luckly there is a old basic option. Really weird but nice GUI and stuff.

I might just go ahead and get a perl or phython language. I saw there was a ruby language too on fedora, what ever that is.

Or it might just be time to try (for the forth time) to learn C++. I just can't grasp it.

I'll check out Purebasic and blitzmax, but from the sound of it BASIC just isn't going to work on linux.

For apps there's HBasic and RealBasic, both of which are free. I've installed both but never used either of them.

Cant agree there - there's many areas which are very limiting - joystick support for one. However, if your just developing GUI based stuff then PureBasic is much better.

Why stick with basic? There are plenty of free cross platform languages that are easy enough to use.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

Stop messing around with BASIC and learn C if you're seriously interested in linux.
