Okay, can someone tell me how in any way, shape, or form this is progressive and not the same bottom-feeder stuff that I hear all over the place?

The Fall of Troy is also in no way progressive. Why do people get so confused at that? People these days have too hard of a time admitting what genre they are. If its hardcore electronica, say it. It's definitely not progressive though.

I was referring to the 2000+ bands who say they're something that they're not to attract that crowd.

Do those bands really matter? Will they be remembered in say 3 years from now? Ten? No. But progressive bands (Rush, Radiohead, Tool, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd) tend to get remembered because they actually do something for music rather than appeal to what people already like. Think of it like this:

If a guy goes skydiving with a group of friends, but stays in the plane, does it make sense for him to say he went skydiving?

just to clear things up
are you talking about the bands that i posted?

because it seems to me that they do in fact fall under the category of progressive

Um, Radiohead are trend setters Saikoro. Listen to Kid A to see them at their most experimental. Don't bunch them with the rest of those bands.

Do you know what progressive is? It's when you progress music. Radiohead did that, but so did Tool, Rush, and all those other bands. They brought something new to the table that wasn't because of trying to be safe. They were musically expressive for the time. Go [/mood] somewhere else.

Kid A was awful--- hard to listen to noise. If that was the best example you could dig up on Radiohead then I feel bad. The Bends and OK Computer are their best albums in my opinion.

Agreed Jeku, I like Pablo Honey as well though, but Bends is Radiohead at their real high point, regardless of all the fuss people made over Kid A.

Personally, I wish people stopped using 'The' in their band name after The Who got away with it. See The Who is like a question, and they answer it on stage - The other 'the' bands seem to have very little to say and a hella attitude saying it.

Please if anyone starts a band, try something new, like 'Those', that way you could be 'Those White Stripes', or 'Those Dirty Apes', or whatever the hell is cool these days. Is Pete Docherty cool?, because I'd love to stab him regardless.

Pablo Honey was and still is my favourite Radiohead album. Every song on it is great. 'Vegetable' is superb.
