um.. my onboard sound has 7.1, which i am perfectly happy with.
i like both ati and amd so am plaesed to hear about this development.
AMD came first with the home market 64bit processing, and ATI are still the only graphics chips to support full screen anti aliasing and HDR lighting at the same time. pwnt nvidia users
amd and ati, at least until recently both seemed to offer better value for money than their competetors, which is the main reason i'm with both of them. (ati were also faster out with vista drivers, still aren't any for nvidia on their website.) although i must admit my asrock mobo is an nvidia chipset with onboard nvidia graphics (that work very well for onboard graphics)
AMD athlon 64 3000+, 1GB ddr400, 400GB total hdd, ati radeon x700pro 256mb (pci-e), onboard nvidea graphics (6100 chipset, sharing 128mb ram) 3x17" tft(@1280x1024).
