Just saw this headline on google and was rather umm, surprised? Looks like AMD is buying ATI for about $5.4 billion. Here's the article:

Cant see why they shouldn't... They've out-done Intel in a very short period. If they can turn ATI around to whoop nVidia then I cant see why they shouldn't go for Mobo, HDD amd CD/DVDROM.

Nothing-- why would that change? They're not closing ATI down or anything

For the record, I'm American, and I'm using an AMD CPU and an ATI graphics card. I think by Intel and NVidia, you meant "The American whey"

Actually, ATI's stock quotes went up almost 18.8%. AMD's stock quotes were the ones that went down after the news ...

I'm American and I use Intel, but not because I'm trying to be patriotic or anything.

What about your sound card? Does AMD/ ATI make sound cards? I know AMD has on-board audio, but I doubt many (if any) people on TGC have on-board audio, and I'm pretty sure that if they do, it isn't intentional

Now this is pretty cool to hear. I wonder how its all gonna turn out! I love AMD, so hopefully I'll love ATI after this too.

I'm working on a high res photorealistic texture pack. High res as in 7 megapixels, e-mail me with suggestions.

I have on-board audio. Why? I use headphones and wouldn't benefit from wasting $20 on a sound card.

I didn't think of the headphone users. I like my soundcard, a Creative SB Audigy LS. BF42 sounds beautiful in 5.1 surround It was about $50 at the time of purchase, pretty nifty. I have a friend who spent something rediculous like $150 on her soundcard... insane. How much better can it possibly sound lol.

um.. my onboard sound has 7.1, which i am perfectly happy with.

i like both ati and amd so am plaesed to hear about this development.

AMD came first with the home market 64bit processing, and ATI are still the only graphics chips to support full screen anti aliasing and HDR lighting at the same time. pwnt nvidia users

amd and ati, at least until recently both seemed to offer better value for money than their competetors, which is the main reason i'm with both of them. (ati were also faster out with vista drivers, still aren't any for nvidia on their website.) although i must admit my asrock mobo is an nvidia chipset with onboard nvidia graphics (that work very well for onboard graphics)

AMD athlon 64 3000+, 1GB ddr400, 400GB total hdd, ati radeon x700pro 256mb (pci-e), onboard nvidea graphics (6100 chipset, sharing 128mb ram) 3x17" tft(@1280x1024).
