Whilst looking for ways to drive traffic to my website, http://www.robindurrant.com, I found this service at http://www.morethantraffic.com/. It claims it will generate you $100,000 dollars worth of sales within 4 months. This seems a little too good to be true. Just wondered if some of you guys could have a look at the site and see if it looks legit.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

There's only one good way to generate traffic for your site, and that's to make a damn good site everyone wants. Word of mouth will take over from there.

Just do a Google search and you find plenty of evidence that it is a scam.

It's impossible for them to say they can garauntee you $100k worth of hits. How much are your products worth? How many units are you aiming at selling and what pricepoint are you setting for said products? What method are they going to use to advertise your site? If they said they could get you 100,000 impressions, I'd say sure, give it a whirl (not for that price though), but there's literally NO WAY they can predict that they can get you $100,000 in sales in ANY alotted period of time.

I think it's pretty obvious Matt. Anyone who thinks these type of things are for real should re-consider starting their own website.

This is just like people that say they can guarantee you gambling winnings. If they actually could, it would be far more profitable for them to do it themselves. People who think these things are real should get a grip.

Ok so its a scam. I didnt think it was real and knew that there was no way they could get me $100,000 dollars worth of sales in 4 months. If it was legit and could have boosted traggic and sales that would have been nice though.

Does anyone know of any legit schemes for my too boost traffic and gain targetted users?

Thanks again,

Mike

Buy some google ads.

Set up a Google Sitemap.

Put a link to your website in every forum profile's signature that you have.

Have a look into affiliate programs, but they tend to be really crappy unless your site is already mega-popular (eg, www.ostg.com).

Other than that, it's all about pimping your site every chance you get.
Advertise on other people's sites (ie, send them a news bulliten when you have something worth sharing), and just generally let people know (nicely, of course!) that you have a site that provides just what they're looking for.

Yeah, I know, that's why I suggested it

The main site I used it for - a Computer Reseller - is Impala Solutions.net, and I get #3 for 'Impala Solutions', where #1 & 2 are taken by Impala Solutions.com (a much bigger company )

Sitemaps works really well

Jess.

Of course, but some people need a real explanation, hence why I said that.

Another idea, as corny as it may sound... go into chat rooms and blab about your site. If you do it with bots, they'll be ignored and you'll run the risk of being kicked out of those chat rooms forever, but seriously go into yahoo chat or IRC or whatever chat you use and talk to people about it first-hand. It won't generate nearly as many hits as Jess' ideas, but it's worth a go, and you might get lucky and find a serious advocate with lots of interested friends

Hey, Matt Rock, since we're talking about websites, I've got a question for you.

I went to your site to see what type of projects you and your team were working on. You know, for those training applications you were talking about. I couldn't find anything. What web site do your potential clients visit? You know, to see if your work interests them.

I'm just curious because I wanted to see what kind of stuff you were were doing for profit.

That's pretty specific though. If I wanted a web designer, "RJS" wouldn't be at the top of my search words Trying fighting for a top spot with just "web design"

Matt, seriously. Invest in a proper webhost. I hit your site and 3 popups and sh*t came up so I just had to alt+f4 everything including the site. Pretty unproffesional for someone who claims to be working on a commercial project with a proffesional team.

Better question: Who's read any of that??

Gents, there's no point in dissing him for having essays on his site - he's not sitting behind your chair twisting your arm and making you read them.

Heck, if you want to complain about sites with rants on - welcome to the age of blog. They're everywhere. Livejournal and MySpace just reek of them.

Thankyou to everyone that has made constructive comments. I have submitted a text file of all the links in my website to the google sitemaps program. Typically, how long is the gap between submitting your sitemap and your pages appearing in the google search results?

Secondly, those wishing to argue, argue about arguing, or argue about arguing about arguing, can kindly go elsewhere, and if you feel the need, start a thread of your own. That way it can quickly be locked by a mod and the rest of the posts on this forum can stay on-topic.

Lastly, is there a way to tell who has tried to email a certain email address. The email address I have used on the site was not set up correctly after moving to Frozen Flames hosting. With the kind help of Frozen Flame he has agreed to rectify this is the next update which is coming this week. I would just like to know though, is there a way to see who, if anyone, has tried to email me. When you try and email this email address it sends you an email saying the message cannot be sent. I would like to send an email to everyone that tried to email me to apologise for the inconvenience. Is this possible?

was that directed at me?

Also I'm sorry for the part I played, but it seems we had already decided it was a scam...

I think that posting things around your community or hosting other people files will lead to "hey wonder wha this website has on it" and they will go to it.

that happened to me today, a shame I dont have it up and running yet.

Thread jacking? I didn't see where this thread was going in the first place.

We've already established that the site was fraud, and some peeps just started talking about Matt's blog/site.

You may not see where its going, that your problem, but still not a valid reason to highjack someones thread.

Yes we have established that it as a scam, and I appreciate the constructive posts, but I still have 2 unanswered questions:

1) What is the timegap between submitting a sitemap to google and your site being crawled?
2) Is there anyway to tell who has tried to email you if the email bounces?

Thanks in advance.

Blue Shadow,

I have three sites on Sitemaps - One took over a week before it even indexed it, another took over night, and the other a couple of days, so I think it just depends on when they get around to it.

About the email thing, no, it's not possible unfortunatly. If the mail-server doesn't exist, then there's nowhere for it to go, and as such the SENDING (ie, hotmail's servers, etc) give a "Not available" message.
You'll just have to put an appology on your webpage and hope people re-send if they have

Jess.

If you have links to your site on other sites, you can get a kind of 'interim' google listing while you wait (mine took about a week) to appear. For example, my site was listed on the MAKE: blog, and MAKE was re-crawled before my site was crawled for the first time. So my site was up and out there, just indirectly, before Google got around to doing my site.

If that makes any sense.

(Thanks, Oddmind - the indirect compliment was appreciated).
