I am looking to add musik to my game and I want to make it myself. Problem being I have ZERO musikal tallent and I need to keep file size low (hense MIDI). Do you guys know of any programs that make riffs and patters based off of my inputs? I used to have one but I deleted it off my computer when I stopped programming a while back and now that I have started again I can't find it. And if possible free would be nice.

Thanks guys

Go buy a sequencer, and a good sound card (Don't get anything like Mbox...) Plug it in to your favorite MIDI port on your computer, and there you go! Just play stuff, and hit keys, you'll be surprised.
You do not need musical talent to write...just look at any rapper ...

Freebies...

Sweet sixteen or Jazz++

I think all soundcards have a General MIDI synth built in these days, so I doubt you'll need to buy one, if you're willing to work with what you've (likely?) already got.

Cheap sequencers...

Alternatively, Cakewalk Music Creator or either Magix Music Maker Deluxe or Music Studio deluxe, all have MIDI support, if you're willing to pay a bit (Up to 50 quid). I think you can also input from a normal qwerty keyboard, as well. Though getting a cheap MIDI keyboard (purely for input, rather than sounds) & gameport cable will make a LOT of difference!

I have an XP3000+, 1.5gb DDR333, a 6600GT and I'm programming 3k text-based exe's?!

You need to take my advice here, I have zero musical talent. I am acctually working on a few songs for my mock rock emo band (I was embareced to admit using midi's for a band). I had a program not to long ago that took premade segments of notes assigned them randomly then played them with the instrument that you chose. I really want to find it again but I am having no luck on the web.

Anyone know the program I'm talking about?

Fruityloops is pretty good - its just very expensive and doesn't export MIDIS very well, but it can import them.

They have cheapskate ($50) versions of Fruity Loops. If you don't know anything about music it may be your best bet. Though It might be better to have someone with a musical bent do it for you. Ask aroun don here or if you even have friends who play piano or are in band or orchestra or something.

that version sucks... the one that costs 100$ actually does something, the one that costs 50$ doesnt even have the piano roll...

they have a video tutorial on www.flstudio.com on how to do it... mine works perfectly.. i never use my midi keyboard

it will only export the midi out channels.. if you have like the slayer synth and want to export THAT to midi.. that will not work.. use the midi out...

Hey I'm talking about making sound professional, go get something good, other wise it's crap. If you are interested in "good" music then goto http://www.fullcompass.com/ and you can ask them what to get.
