Right, I want to know about legal issues when it comes to paying tax and so forth. Say I have a game, which is complete and ready for publishing, would I be best off registering a company? Ive looked into it in the past, but couldnt find any helpful information.

Given that you have no way of knowing how successful you will be, you can simply sell the item as an individual and declare any earnings on a self-assessment form in September each year. If it takes off, consider trading as a sole trader or partnership. You need 2 people to register a limited company, and you can kiss goodbye to at least a grand a year in administration.

So I would be better off just doing a self-assessment form then?

When I have a game to sell, I want it published to be out in shops, so I really need to pay taxes. Also, I knew a guy who lived next door to me, he never paid taxes, so a few years after he and his family moved, he got caught and put in prison for not paying taxes.

The goverment are allowed to steal money from us legally, which is kind of odd, because when we steal money, we get 3 or more years in prison.

Okay, Matt Rock Jr. Don't pay your taxes and you'll go to jail. Or the IRS will take all of your money away. Whatever your opinion, taxes are a fact of civilized life.

In which case, the companies you deal with will expect a certain degree of organisation. You'd need to at least be a partnership and be registered for VAT. Without that, the administration becomes too complex for everyone else.

@fighting spirit - Nice 2 day slap earned there for inciting a political flamewar and hijacking a thread.

I love how no matter what the topic is, people can still seem to turn it into a flame war
