Hello everyone,

I have a level editing question. Before I ask just to give you and idea of what I work with:

- 3D Studio Max 8 (for all my modeling and texturing coordinate needs)
- FPS Creator (to make game levels)
- FPS Segment Editor (to create room segments)
- FPS Creator Entity Maker (to create objects to be placed in the levels)
- SignsII (to quickly make rooms and wall furniture i.e. signs for walls)

Okay, in FPS Creator is it possible to make a ceiling tile lie half way the high of a room segment? For example I’d like to make a room where a portion of the ceiling is a bit higher but not a full level higher… is that possible and if so how could I do that?

Thanks a ton,
Cyprian

yep I've done it just find the mesh file for a floor tile in the fps creator mesh bank and run it though the entity editor then as an entity you can place it any height anywhere

Hey Small Fish,

Thanks a ton, that makes sense to me man. Okay I have a follow up question for you then. I know this is gona be more a a scripting question now but you might be able to help me out still. When I open a '.fps' file up in notpad there is a bunch of functions like this...

Quote: ";Segment Visibility

visoverlay = 0
visfloor = 0
visroof = 1
viswallb = -1
viswallr = -1
viswallf = -1
viswalll = -1
viscornertl = -1
viscornertr = -1
viscornerbr = -1
viscornerbl = -1

;Segment Blueprint

mode = 2
symbol = 0
floorsizey = 1
sidesizex = 100
sidesizey = 1
sidesizez = 100
groundmode = 2
kindof = 0

;end""

Do you know of a tut or a post that describes what each line does? If not could you possibly write down what they do for all of us noobs ??

Thanks a million!
Cyprian

I always glad to help when I can but I'm just starting with this to and what little expertise I have is with models so I can't really help you with a scripting question but good luck with it

3DMagic,

Getting hold of the Segment editor and watching the video tutorials by Lee will answer those technical questions.

I dont use the segnment editor but make them by hand - but the videos in the SegEd download are well worth watching as its gives a user an in depth understanding of how segments and entities are composed or should be made and how they are recognised/regarded internally by the engine.

Its a really good grounding into understanding FPSC internal workings.

Everyone should watch the videos - Pity they are not available separately.

Should be mandatory to watch for all FPSC users and then everyone would know how it works.

And yes one way or another you can place anything anywhere you want inside FPSC.
