Maybe a stupid question, but did you format it?

Home computers are being called upon to perform many new functions, including the consumption of homework formerly eaten by the dog.

Right click my computer and click manage. Then click disk management from the storage branch. Your new drive will hopefully be there but you have to initialise it. Then format it. Something like that. Basically you cannot format it until it is initiated.

Hopefully that is the problem. I had the same thing with a totally uninitiated HD inside a media player (like those KiSS things) the other day. Bloody french manual...

Cheers

Correct - need to go into disk management tool and mess around with making a partition, giving it a drive letter, formatting it, etc

Boo!

Yeah, I have a vague memory of doing something like that absolutely years ago. But not in many years (and I've had a lot of hard drives). Was ready to pull the media players apart to check connections when as a semi-last straw I decided to babel fish the french manuals (Programmers don't read manuals even if they are in english - it's like the final test when you get your degree ). "Virgin" hard drive (internal Hard drives in them) gave it away a bit. If it detects it (and you can see it installing) but doesn't show the drive or give an option to format, then needs initialising etc. Bloody french. Again.

Cheers

My 250gb drives in the media players took at least an hour if I remember rightly. Left the 2nd one overnight. Was most annoying 'cos I took a couple of hours trying everything else. Unfortunatly I have a fair few PC's, and USB cables so "everything else" mainly consisted of trying both media players with all usb cables with all PC's. Sigh....

Cheers
