Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on these forums. Anyway...
Does anyone know of a good way to do collision detection for *only* one limb?

the only way I can think of is:
1. Replace the limb with a small sphere (the sphere is the limb now)
2. Make the original limb(arm,cannon, whatever you had) and use the attach object to limb command
3.check for collision with the object

I glue a small cube to both ends of the limb. It takes some manual positioning on your part. Then, using Sparky's DLL, cast a ray of intersection from one limb to another. Then you have almost perfect limb collision.
