i found out how to sort of 'bend the rules' on any model that you make it is so simple when you save the file put "" around the file name and put .x, or just replace x with any file you want here is an example---"puturfilenamehere.whateverkindoffileuwant" see how simple that is i have a terrain builder that doesn't export x files, so i saved it as "gameterrain.x" if that is illegal, please tell me

No, It won't work unless the modeling program exports that file format. See, for each different format, the program has to write tons of data in a specific way, which varies for each format.

it can be called a .X but an extension isnt about the .x part, its about whats in it.

The extension means actually nothing, you can have a .bmp sound and .txt images. The important part is what is inside your file. Change the extension of a bitmap to .X, then try to open it with paint : it works perfectly, now try with your modeler : error.

Unless a program makes a model, importsor exports a model,or converts a model to the direct x (or .x) format it is not in .x format.
