Probably not the best place to ask, but hey I think you guys rule. Anyone ride a motorcycle?

I'm getting one next week, a Ninja 250. It's small, and slow, but it's a good learner.

What you got? Any pics? Any tips (for noobs)?

Peace

you must be a small guy to get 50cc to 70.

Which reminds me I think I may be to big for the bike. 6' 2" 225lbs what do you guys think?

My only tip would be prepare to suffer serious physical pain. I have 6 friends or friends of friends I can think of that have motorbikes. All of them have come off at some point or other (normally someone elses fault though) and broken legs, arms, ribs and one broke his pelvis. I think if you use them for any period of time, or general commuting, your chances off coming off and getting hurt are pretty damn high. BUT, they're fun. Gotta decide if its worth the trade off!

Yes. I leave for the Marine Corps in December, and I want to have some fun before I become a ground pounder.

I havn't downed a bike yet, I learned on a Nighthawk (Honda), that thing was tiny. I couldn't keep my knees on the tank because I would have had to literally popped one of my legs out of my hips.

But the Ninja is a little bigger.

Does a pink barbie bicycle with streamers and a motor taped on count as a motorcycle?

does it have two wheels, a motor, and can you ride it? If yes to all then yes!

It's not paranoia if you actually are going to die.

the asumption that every rider is going to die on a bike is paranoia. There are acctually more fetal car accidents every year then there are fetal motorcycle accidents in America. The only reason that bikes are painted so bad is because there are fewer riders, and less bikes then there are cars. Also about 50% of all fetal motorcycle accidents in America are single vehicle accidents. Meaning that the rider lost control. So once you are good enough to stay in control no matter what happens you are at a much smaller risk.

I was only joking. As long as you're a careful rider, you'll most like be fine. However in the UK, motorcycle riders are 40 times more likely to be killed than car drivers and they only represent 1% of traffic but make up 20% of all deaths on the road and 20% of all serious injuries. It's fair play to ride a motorbike, but you shouldn't kid yourself into thinking it's totally safe.

But your first post in this thread really gave the impression you don't leave your house for fear of catching some airbourne desease(or something else to that level of danger).

I have an old "Frankenstein" bike, that I slapped together using old Suzuki and Puch parts. I don't really know what to call it other than, "SuPuchi".

I used to have one of those signs, but then realized how annoying it was...

Benjamin, are you joking? Motorcycles are really dangerous and you should spare no expense in making sure that you are as protected as you can be so that you aren't critically injured.

I'm saving up for one, i have my motorcycle license and usually drive my dads Polaris Victory Hammer.

http://www.polariswest.com/2006hammer.html

It's a little bigger than i want, and i actually was wanting to get a sports bike and not so much of a cruiser. I work home theatre at bestbuy, so i'm going to do the home theatre system first, THEN the Bike.
