For Nintendo to shut projects down would piss off their, fans never a good idea, which makes its very unlikely. But what I'll do with my fan game is once I have gotten so far, I will email them with screenies, a demo's etc, requesting written permission to distribute my game for free once complete, therefore than cannot go 'oi, stop the project now, you fat bas***' But it looks like thats gonna be a while, engine issues, money issues (I am going to get a copy of XSI for my models/anim...I need money, even if I got it, I still need to wait for the exporter to be made, as I've already said I'm a traitor and am not using DBP).

But to the game creators of this, I would do as I am going to do, try and get Nintendo's permission to distribute, they're not making money from the GB game, so its no harm to them, but to get written permission means if some reason they take action you wave that in front of their eyes . If they say no in the first place...greedy bastards

Hmm, let's see... Are they going to risk loosing a handfull of fans or risk loosing their whole Zelda brand? Really, how many would stop bying Nintendo games and consoles if a Zelda fangame is stoped? Squeenix did the same with Cronotrigger Resurection and I don't see any drop in FF sales.

id have to disagree...i boubt they would lose ANY fans if they shut down fangames....i mean seriously, why would they care? its not the fangames that they love, its the originals...as much as id like to see this game completed, i can see the implications for nintendo...id likely shut it down if someone were copying my game...and i wouldnt stop loving zelda if they chose to do so...

just imo,

He's probably not posting because everything you are talking about is stuff he shoudln't really give a thought to if hes not stealing any real media or selling his game.

Wrong, it's still stealing. Look, I work for a games company and a couple of years ago, someone wrote to them asking if they could make a Half Life mod based on one of their old games. They HAD to say no. You don't understand, possibly, but if you let one person away with using your brand without lots of money/permissions/supervision/lawyers, then people will use that in court in future against you. If Nintendo let one fan game away with it - why not let them all away with it? The main problem is that if there is prior example of other people being allowed to use your brand without paying for it, then evil-money-grabbing-nasty-companies will have something to show in court to say "But everyone's doing it!" when they heartlessly rip off everything every Zelda fan has ever come to love, raping the brand for every penny/cent/yen/monetaryunit it was once worth.

So, if you want Nintendo to lose control of the Zelda brand, so that any two-bit company reels out Zelda 'games' of terrible quality, anyone with a pencil can draw 'Zelda' art of dubious quality or content, or any filthy flybynight porn-makers can make Link/Zelda porn with impunity - then keep on pushing for the 'right' to steal brands.

It sounds harsh and DEEPLY over the top - but that's what Nintendo (and any other brand holder) has to watch out for. It's not 'being evil to fans' - they're not doing it to spite anyone - they're doing it so that they won't get horribly ripped off in court one day.

Again - the game looks great, and there's always something deeply compelling about a game/film world you love that makes you want to be a part of it and show it to others in a new and exciting light. But don't be surprised if things like this get C&D'd - and please don't think that just because there's no money involved, that it's immune. It's not.

Very sorry for the thread hijack, just trying to squish a myth.

Tinkergirl is 1000% right about this. If Nintendo C%Ded the game, they would certainly piss off some fans, but they wouldn't lose any. Tinkergirl has beautifully outlined the possibilities of loss for Nintendo if they don't C&D such a project.

I hope that none of this happens, because it certainly looks nice

I said about pissing off fans, not loosing them, if mine was shut down, I would still play Wind Waker and buy TP...And it wouldn't risk loosing their Zelda brand, so I was saying they generally wouldn't piss off their fans when what they are doing is harmless, even if they have the full copright rights to shut it down.

From my last post I was saying how if you were to get permission, I was saying they may accept as they are not making money. But the rest of your post , holds some very important points I didn't consider. The only way I would guess, like I said would to try and get permission, if they say no, then it will be a personal game that I can give to friends (And Nintendo rivals )

Come on, lets not hijack it anymore...looks like they haven't been back for updates, this obviously isn't one of their main forums.

Doubt that. Blizzard has cancelled countless games and mods based on their franchises, and they're still one of my favorite developers.

Prehaps, they have done as some here said, and stopped posting updates of the game online, so that they hopefuly wouldn't get a c&d notice...

Heck, they might not release it to the public at all after reading this thread.

see, although blizzard is full of money grubbing pricks, Nintendo is very different, they are very supportive of fans, in anything they do... i think there will be no problems

I think Ninty would've issued a C&D to Zelda Classic along time ago if that was the case... look how big that program has gotten.

Anyways looks fairly good, Link's Awakening is one of the best games ever.
