Nov 11 - Latest version:
P.1.0 is now available for download here.
Soon 200 SGT downloads!

SGT will be a no-programming-needed-all-in-one-package for creating games, just add some media. I've been coding since Jun 12th so it's a prototype at this stage but I'll be using this to create my own games in the future so it will continue to develop over time. Right now it's 2D top-down view only, with no isometric. But it's set up so that you can create a fake 3D look. Check the manual for more information.

Thanks

3D is planned as are many types of gameplay, including shooters and platformers. Top-down seemed easiest to start with and also quite popular. Point and click movement and RPG features are planned soon.

Are you suggesting that I replace the mouse pointer in Mapper with the selected tile? I'm not sure what I'll be doing with the mouse pointer right now but I'll keep that in mind. When I'll add mouse interaction to the games you'll be able to use your own images or animations.

1) CRTL + S, check the readme
2) Thanks
3) It's only for testing

You can make your own animation, check the readme and the image "anim.png" located in the Images folder. You can make your own anything, that's the idea Best thing would be if people make art that others can use.

AL:
I'll be making a 3D rendered character later but right now I think it's better that I focus on getting things working. That's why I hope someone else can provide better animations.

If you scroll down the readme about halfway there's a section called MAPPER INSTRUCTIONS where you find all the controlls for mapper listed at the bottom. You can also copy any line from the TOC and do a search for it to get to the section you want fast.

Here are the Mapper controlls:

Left Mouse Button - Draw / Change layer / Select tile
Right Mouse Button - Erase / Change layer

1-5 - Select brush size
W/A/S/D - Move the camera

Up/Down Arrows - Change between tile sets
Left/Right Arrows - Scroll tile selector

CTRL+S - Save map
CTRL+F - Display FPS
CTRL+K - Display key scancode
CTRL+G - Turns grid on and off
CTRL+B - Turns background image on and off

TAB - Hide and show info bar and tile selector
ESC/ALT+F4 - Quit Mapper

Ah

There's no default tile size, or cells as I call them. You can specify your own cell size in "Game.txt". Just make sure you use even numbers for the sizes. Check the SCRIPT COMMANDS and CREATING GAME ART sections in the readme, or just check the remarks in Game.txt. Your objects and walls can be 3 cells high and the objects can also be 3 cells wide.

I use 24x18 as this gives a 3D effect where something like 32x32 would be flat, or 90 degrees above. The smal size is because these floor tiles where once made to go into a mobile game.

Object intreaction is planned for P.0.2.

Level progression I might as well add in my next update (P.0.1) as right now I'm thinking of adding in a player start option. A level end option is just as easy and I'll just have Player reading maps from a list.

I don't mind anyone making example maps/games, it takes work off from me so that's welcome. As games takes up very little space I could add in multiple games if people are interested in making them. So if you're the only one making an example game then yours will be THE example game

The letters are there simply because I needed something to show off the Carpet layer. The Carpet layer allows you to add decorations to your level's floor. Both Floor and Carpet layers can use the same tilesets. And SGT is the abrevation for Simple Game Toolkit

Good, I should work extra hard on getting the next one up

DB:
Same to you. I have looked a bit on your shots but I've not had time to read anything yet. Seems like you've come quite far.

AF:
Downloading movie... it's twice the size of SGT

It's pretty good I notice that you do not use different brush sizes, use 1-5 to select your brush size. Also I noticed that I forgot to add the layer keys to the readme. The are:

F - Floor
C - Carpet
O - Object
L - Wall

Also, Coders Turf is not the official website for SGT, they only host the files. My website is: http://www.digitalawakening.net

I'll be doing my own HTML help files later but the tutorial is nice

You have 2 images in BMP, use GIF or PNG instead. In images there's a map called "_vti_cnf" that shouldn't be there. You mentioned the coordinates X:0 and Y:0 and those are outside the map. There's no instructions on how to change layer nor how to use larger brushes. And perhaps you should include how to change the player possition in Game.txt

And you've found the first bug.

Got it to work now, apparently it only ocurrs when above the map, if you move left or right and up it doesn't happen. I've added the bug to my todo list.

I don't know for sure, I'm quite bussy with other things next week. And I hope Josh over at CT can get his file uploader working because he's leaving in a week and he'll be gone for 2 weeks.

If nothing else I could upload it in this thread if I'm done before he comes back. The only thing that's gonna take some time is the marquee tool so I'm hoping before the end of this month.
