Newcomers DBPro Corner / Strange Error Message

SystemError : Surfaces could not be created. [..000. & Direct3D HAL] Failed to create a D3D Device from BackBuffer Surface

That is the error message. I just want to get down to some game programming where I don't have to sit for ours in front of a blue c++ screen debugging, does anyone know a quickfix to this or this sort of problem?

get your latest video drivers and make sure directx 8.1 + is installed

i have DX 9, and I don't know where I can update my drivers...

I have a, ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X

and my system says I'm as updated as I can be for it.

i dunno then... i had that prob before i updated my video drivers and then it was gone

oh! I read around, and found that people have problems with XP. I am using XP professional, and I have the trial version of DB, is that why it won't work?
