I was messing around with FPSC this morning and decided to include a torch model as a bonus for my next pack. The torch is very basic and just about does the job. I'll explain how it works.

The crosshair for the torch is a translucent circle. It gives the appperance of light. The torch also flashes the yellow gun light when you click the mouse. The yellow light helps the translucent circle see the object so in theory if you only concentrate on the circle and not the flashing yellow light then it gives the appperance of a torch beam. It's very basic but I think it's good enough for FPSC at present. Here are some screenshots to demonstrate what I have just explained...

In a total black environment with no light what so ever holding down the mouse button will illuminate the view and you will be able to see it more clearly through the circle. The light does flash so it can get annoying. Remember the yellow light comes from holding the mouse button.

In a dimly lit area, the crosshair just about illuminates dark objects so you can see them more clearly.

Anyway it's called a FLASH-light so it flashes

Yeah, ok. Really all I was doing was testing the theory out. Before I release my pack I will sort out the size.

Hey, you used my idea in that circle thing!

Well, it doesn't bother me. Looks pretty good.

Well, thats good. But when flash circle points boxes it doesn't show "real light" (picture). But good anyway.

Thanks, oh sorry Nigezu I didn't realise you used that method. Sorry. Ok, new video demonstrating how the flash light works. In total darkness hold down the mouse button and in partial darkness the white circle does the job. The torch model needs to be re-positioned though.

you cant do the same thing as in doom, by the looks of it doom3 is supported by "real time lighting interface" or whatever its called, i dont think that fpsc supports this yet though

You cannot do that in the current version of FPSC. Sorry, but thats probably the best you can get, without editing the source.

Hey Bug Tracking, do you still have the model you made in this thread?

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=72356&b=24

if you do can you upload that somewhere, becuase the link you have there is dead.

Zizaco- I like your flashlight a lot, but I'm holding up for download untill i see a video. Also- ARE you EVER going to finish that corpse model?

Opposinf Force- I like your flashlight, but if you could work out the flashing thing it would be better. I also think if you're going to have the flashlight model showing, you should have a button on it.

Aliens are real! you all laugh at me now and think I'm crazy! but when I post a video of me with an alien, you will all be sorry!!!

@Zizaco - Your flashlight messed up a lot of peoples FPSC programmes. If you want to talk about you models, make a thread about it, but don't come on to other peoples thread and hijack it.

anyway, back on topic. Great flashlight opposing force

That flashlight looks nice, Opposing Force!

Although, I would suggest trying to model a semi-transparent beam coming out of the torch, if you know what I mean. And also, make sure you angle the torch a little better.

I used to have one of those signs, but then realized how annoying it was...

I have an idea, why dont you make it a flame instead, so that way the flashing light will seem more natural (not to mention logical)?
