For some of us (insane) Brits who chose to stay on at school for an extra two years to do A - Levels it was results day today! I've finished the first year (As) and I got the following:

Philosophy - A
History - A
Geography - A
Maths - B

How did everyone else do?

Well I just did my Standard Grades (or O Grades as they used to be called), these are my results:

Music - 1
Maths - 2
Chemistry - 2
German - 2
Computing - 2
Physics - 2
English - 3
Geography - 3

(English and Geog were the best I could do at the level I sat)

I'm not fully úber happy, but happy enough I guess.

Nice. In the US we're graded on a percentile scale (0-100) for exams and a 1-5 score, 1 lowest, 5 highest, for "AP exams". I've only taken one AP exam (AP World History) so far (will be taking 3 this year), and surprisingly got a 4 . I don't really get how things work in Europe, so I can't really compare it with anything...if you pass AP exams you get college credit for that class, or at least partial, depending on the college. 3-5 is passing with AP exam, 70% and above is passing with exams (and every other grade in school). I think that Europe does the percent thing as well but not with exams?

When I was in high school new york state had "regents." Do they have those elsewhere?

In the US our "level system" or grade system is kintergarden, then 1st grade through 12th grade. We don't have an option, you just go until you finish, then you get into college based on your SAT's. 1st grade to 5th grade is elementary school, 6th grade to 8th grade is middle school (sometimes called Junior High), then 9th grade to 12th grade is high school.

Well in the UK we have compulsory education upto the age of 16 (at the end of which you take GCSE exams) then you can opt to do A-Levels for two years, another sort of of course or just drop out of school completely.

A* is the highest grade you can achieve at GCSE while A is the highest you can get at A-Level.

I don't wish to put a downer on it, but I think the dropped standards for A levels is really going to cause problems in the future. I mean, this year apparently 96.6% passed!
The problem will arise when someone with A levels taken this year is applying for a job where there are people with the same grades (or slightly lower) but from A levels taken 5+ years ago. Employers are going to have real trouble comparing like-for-like.

That's right, 96.6% passed, but you have to remember that a pass counts as anything above a G. Only 24ish% got an A grade at A2, so there's not really that many people acheiving the top grades.

So basically a quarter of everyone who took them got the top grade! Out of 7 possible grades! Still a bit shocking

AP exams are graded in comparison to everyone else, as in, one year if you get 70/80, you could get a 5, and one year you could get 70/80 and get a 3, it all depends on how good everyone else does, it's not graded on percentile. So if you happen to be taking it at the same year as a bunch of idiots, well...lucky you .

Well done everyone Nice to see people getting good grades.

I got

Chemistry: A (I'm completely over the moon about this. I got 96% on one of the tests. Really suprising seeing as I've averaged C's all year)

Maths: B (This was a relief seeing as I've averaged U's all year )

Biology: B

I know it's really selfish, greedy and arrogant, but I'm really disappointed with Biology. Mainly because I went into the last two exams on an high A, but did badly to bring it down to a high B. However, I did sacrifice my revision to concentrate on Maths. ABB gets me into uni. AAU won't, so I guess it's for the best.

I got A-Biol, B-Phys,B-Chem,C-Maths. Im annoyed because i was only about 20 points off 2 more A's. But cant complain because only did about 1 night of revision for each topic (Apart from Biol. But i'm dropping that anyway).

Terribly fun night though afterwards. Got Quite tipsy.
