One of the final models for the new pack, a nurse!



Notice the alpha-channeled transparent hair, looks much better than a block of polys across the face.



Other cool things: I'm in the process of adding a spring controller to her skeletal rig, specifically to the pony tail. If all goes well, it should bounce and swing realistically without any further keyframing, sweet. And I've made a creepy looking pigeon toed animation for the zombie version.

Nice model. And I like the real ponytail better then the textured. Great use of transparency too.

nice, and lovely about the alpha channels, i need to get into that some more, though FPSC really bugs me when i try to attempt anything transparent...

are you using the alpha channel in a .tga or are you exporting direct to .dds, if so, what mode? DXT5?

well anyway, sure does look nice, some reason reminds me of lois from malcolm in the middle... the face

SHe does look very nice and if you could share how you achieve that exact look of the alpha channel(ingame) it would mean alot to many of us. I have gotten hair to look like that in my modeler but when put in FPSC it gets strange effects.

Yeah you gotta use DXT5 (interpolated alpha) to avoid the stair stepping effect. I'll try and post some in-game shots after I get her animations sorted out.

i tried DXT5, though the results came out like one of the first, kinda strange, maybe i had the transparency settings wrong in the .fpe

ah well, i'll get it soon enough hoping to put it to use on further projects with stuff like torn cloth, hair etc.

one thing i want to ask, how are you getting around the culling in the FPSC engine? or are you using 2 polygons each with normals flipped?

Yes that's what I'm doing. Transparency is a lot of trial and error in FPSC, I'll probably have to do a lot of tweaking before it's all said and done. Plus transparency looks different whether the entity is static or dynamic, as well as the lighting. I remember having to do LOTS of experimenting with the transparency for model pack 2.

I like the fact she has real boobs, as in I can see that they look real, enough for a game model.

Bond, I think you may earn a hell of a lot if you just pack in FPSC and make a, ahem, porno game with your female game characters. You could charge what you do a model pack, every week.

Thanks guys.

And for those who wanted to see the transparency in-game, here are 3 screenshots. It came out great without any further tweaking. Normally the entire right eye would be obscured by polys, but the transparency gives a nice fade to the hair. I'll probably go for a nice "shredded clothes" effect for the zomibe version, should look really great!
