Hey, I just got conroe for my pc. The mobo I got (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2314&ModelName=GA-965P-DS3) said it had intel high definition sound, which got tons of pwn reviews (That, or $100 on sound card..). So I install the drivers. Restart. Whenever I listen to ANY music, or anything 'fast', it gets all distorted and caught up. I looked for drivers, found no new ones. I didnt see any other people with the problem. I expected it might be an itunes issue, but no help from winamp or windows media player. =(

Any other conroe users have this issue?

To be honest, it sounds more like a connection problem, then a driver problem. Check the wires to your speaker, the jack and the socket, if anyone of them are loose, cut or there is a dry joint, then this may explain the problem. If it was stuttering, or something like that I'd be more inclined to suspect drivers, but as it is, it seems more likely there's a speaker problem of some kind.

Hey all, I didn't solve it, it turns out the cpu (conroe), slows down to be cooler, but that screws up the integrated sound, which is trying to use conroe.

That once happened to me, it was pretty weird. I fixed it by muting Line-in and Mic-in, but if you have more, you may want to mute them too.

I did that, and it didn't help (it was the second thing I did). I tried the old trick with filling up the processor with... processes, so it wouldn't auto slow down, but that didn't help at all.

Look in the BIOS to see if there is a power saving option that you can disable. Failing that, check out your power icon in the configuration pannel, some laptops extend the power management software with their own

It isn't a laptop, though conroe's tech is based on laptop technology. No power saving issues. I triple checked the connections, works fine with my ipod plugged into my speakers. Just gets damned annoying when I am trying to learn how to midi properly=P...

Grab a soundcard. I use a USB one I got off ebay, 7.1 Audio, optical, and a mic. I paid about £30, words well.

Some people make fun of me for spending so much money on sound cards, but mine SB platinums are usually the first supported cards whenever something new comes out. Win2k was release, mine was the first on Creative's list. Same thing with Vista and my audigy 2. Although, their software sure went way downhill after Win2k. Very slow due to their bubbly interfaces now.
