Well not actually new put still good! My good friend bought a new Laptop so he gave me his old VAIO. 2.8Ghz 702MB RAM 64MB ATI Shared GPU 40GB! Its great!

I was wondering though how do I re-register Windows XP to me? Its till registered to my friend! I only have a Recovery disc though.

Also how to I transfer programs that he has installed on the laptop previoulsy? I don\'t want them but certain members of the family want them! So I am going to put them on the External HDD but how do I do it without having to copy paste?
Thanks!

First, contact microsoft customer services. Providing you are now the owner of the Certificate of Authentisity, they will tell you how to transfere ownership.

Secondly, backup the data you want to keep (save games, documents, programming files etc) and shove them on a CD/ DVD. Then just install the programs onto your new laptop. You can mirror disks with ceratin program, but in my experiance ghosting one hard drive onto another can cause all sorts of problems. In theory it should work, but in my own experiance just reinstalling everything will lead to a might more stable machine. Remember when you are ghosting from one PC to another, you are ghosting that machines drivers as well which will be totally different, these old files and registry enteries can often interfear with the new drivers you need to install.

Keep it simple, reinstall, don't ghost.

You can't, it's illegal, and if you are using it on your desktop as well it's illegal too.

Program's can't be transfered. You must uninstall, and then reinstall on the other computer, if you have the legal CD. Maybe this is why you want to transfer?

Fixed everything up! All is working just re-installing DBpro as we speak!
One question though, it says my intergrated GPU can have up to 128mb of memory. currently it only has 64 how do I increase it? And when I tried to run 3Dmark 03 it says it can't initilise direct3D which the card has! Its in the properties! Also I tried to put catalyst driver 6.6 and it says I need a VGA driver or something!
A little help please!
Oh its the VAIO PCG-K74

well with ati laptop graphics cards the laptops themselves use default screens (not even classed as plug and play) so this means you would need to go to the offical website to get the newest driver

you would need to go into the bios settings to change it from 64 to 128

I have one of my favorite games Sims 2 on the laptop, and it plays (on low) alright! But after about 10 15 minutes it jams! The music continues the fan goes but I can't continue playing!

Is it something to do with TnL? the graphic accelarator is an Radeon IGP 345M.
Thanks!

How are we supposed to know? Use Google or contact EA customer support

Well when I tried to install the latest Catalyst driver it told me that I needed a proper VGA driver. Also like I said above when I tried to run 3D mark 03 it said it couldn't initialise Direct3D!

Could that be a problem?

well you cant get driver updates from ati for laptops unless it is one with a non default screen which most never have, you will need to go onto the offical website, also the sims 2 is broken and you need to latest patch for it, ea is remaking the bf2 death with sims2...

Fixed it!
Was a heat problem! All I had to do was to raise the back part of the laptop up to let the air circulate better out of the fan!
