Personally I don't think Raycasting is a good idea for someone at your status, but since I encourage people to follow their ideas implicitly, I say try it out if you really want to.

Cocacola and Pepsi aren't that differnt. Deal with it.

I don't really understand how "raycasting" works. I know it's 2D that looks 3D but how does it work? How can 2D that only has an X and Y axis make 3d. Do you known those old games from the 80's well they have "3d" style graphics, heres a link to an old 80's game...

Is that the same as Ray casting? Can something like that be done in Dark Basic.

I'm pretty sure you can do raycasting in Dark Basic, It's basicly creating a 2D drawing from top view, and using Rays pointing from the player too the drawings to make it feel like you are in the drawing(it's alot more complicated then the way I explain it). I personally would consider it 2D because there is no more 3rd dimension in the game then a cartoon would have, considering it was being animated. Also that old game you posted Opposing Force, really wierd and eye strainig, but yes, that is pretty much raycasting.

Cocacola and Pepsi aren't that differnt. Deal with it.

Dude, you don't need to program a raycasting engine because DBP is already built on top of a (greatly superior to a raycasting) 3d engine...

I don't recommend trying to program a raycasting engine, because, really its outdated and there is no real need. And really it will just confuse you because you don't have a sufficient background in mathematics.

DBP makes it very, very easy to set up a 3d game. All you need to know to make the graphics side of a doom style game in DBP is how to texture and move around plains. Try looking over the 3d command list, and glance over some code snippets and you should pick up on it. It is similar to 2d, really just an extra dimension nothing to freak out about in DBP with all the built in commands.
