Yes, but it's no ordinary pet. It's a snake! (a corn snake). It's not as freaky as everyone thinks snakes are, it's really cool how it moves around your hand. He's about 1 foot long now, but he will grow to about 4 feet in time, and will be about an inch thick.
His name is Ankh, which is the snake that egyptian people had on their hats. I think it sounds cool.
There's a picture attached, you can't see all of him, but enough.

At the moment little pink mice, you only feed him once a week. In time when he grows you feed him big hairy mice. It should be cool to watch seeing as the mice are about 10 times wider than the actual snake. Also, I forgot to say, he's not a squeezing snake, but he ain't poisonous to humans or dogs or anything.

I had a corn snake, I thought it was cool for the first 2-3 years, then it went nuts and tried to eat me. Every time I went to feed it, it would try to attack. I felt like cutting its head off with some scissors. It bit me too, it wouldnt let go for about 3 minutes, so thats why I wanted to kill the bugger.

I ended up selling it back to the guy I bought it off, for £35, it was £60 when I first got it.

Apparently you need to handle it quite often (a few times a day) to keep him friendly.

Thats probably why it went nuts then. I kind of got fed up with it and bought pet rats, maybe a dumb idea keeping a snake in the same room.

Ive gone off liking snakes, not because I got bit, but because they dont do much. I like my two pet rats too much to care about snakes any more.

How old is your corn snake, if he's older than a year and has been around violent nature, he will get nasty.

Quote: "Originally posted by Higgins

Here is some advice, the reason why your snake probably got nasty everytime you went to feed him is because I don't think you set up a feeding area, where the snake knows thats where he eats, otherwise he will always think your feeding him something- see your hand, and bite it. Also it really helps to get your snake younger than 1 years old, I had a friend who was related to a zookeeper, and he gave him a newborn snake. Now the snake is an adult, and is the nicest snake I ever met, and he is a Corn. I also recomend if you ever wanted another snake, to get a Ball Python, they are big but really, really friendly. One last thing, don't feed your snake live mice if possible, if your snake is still young, try to get him used to frozen mice that are already dead, like ArticMice, a company that sells dead frozen mice at pet stores in little containers, otherwise if you feed him live mice, he will get used to it, and want more so you will have to buy more live ones, which are alot more expensive, and increases your snakes hunting nature (not the best thing to increas).

Or you lose him under the floor boards, like I did. I did that twice and was lucky enough to get her back both times. Last time I found her, she was in our airring cubard, where it was hot.

**EDIT**

Gamedesign er20, I had fed my snake in its tank for the first few years, then it just went mad and tried to bite me. It had never done it before. I might have left it alone far to long and it got a little angry.

I like pets that can actually like me back. Having a snake that does not bite me doesn't qualify as liking me, that's just one more good day.

Cats are cool. I grew up with a lot, and they're pretty lovable. However, dogs are hands down the best. They'll die for a good owner, and can find their home hundreds of miles away. Not to mention that they're pretty smart.

I mean leaving it in its tank, not getting it out, only feeding it. I had my rats, so I kind of abused the snake with looking after my rats.

Its in the pet shop again, so its happy with the oother snakes. It was too much to look after, with cleaning the sand out every month, it was a pain in the arse.

Higgins- I used to have a pet rat, but then it died and i bought another rat.

Cash Curtis II- I've had a dog for about nine years now and I have to say they are really nice animals.

Xenocythe- I've always wanted a cat. I'm a total cat person, my friends cat who is unfriendly will come to me and let me pet him. I've never owned a cat though, and probably never will becuase they cratch up the furniture and stuff.

Yep, awesome pets! I also like ferrets alot. They are similar to a cat as they crap in a box and clean themselves and all that, but they are soo much more playful, and loveable. Pretty much a mix between dogs and cats.

I'm working on a high res photorealistic texture pack. High res as in 7 megapixels, e-mail me with suggestions.

I can't stand our dogs. The smaller one is disobedient and runs away when you take her for a walk, and the bigger one is a right pain too. When there is a storm(or fireworks) he shakes for ages and climbs on top of you and pisses on the floor. And I stupidly taught him how to open doors, so he's always opening doors he shouldn't. That, as well as the fact that dogs are unclean(in comparison with cats) and dependant, is why I prefer cats.

Well, my dog doesn't really react that much to fireworks and storms... Other than trying to follow the sounds and all through the windows. And then maybe let out a bark or two once in a while

And well... Maybe dogs are unclean compared to cats, I don't find it as a problem. My dog hasn't done it inside since he was a very little puppy. It's just like cats. You need to learn them where to do it, then it shouldn't be a problem.

But they are much more dependant indeed! If I've yelled at him for something he's not allowed to do, he always want the final word... Like, when I've yelled, he just go break another small rule to get the final work. It's like a small fight for who gets the final word Hehe.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention the fact that this dog barks for ages when anyone/anything goes past the end of the drive. That's extremely annoying.

Ours are trained fine, it's just that dogs will crap at any spot on the lawn. Cats will pick their places, and cover it up afterwards.

I hope that doesn't mean they come from grassy areas, I just made it's vivarium all desert themed. I just figured that's where it came from because of it's colour . Oh well, if it's not then it'll just have to migrate

They're definitely fake. They're just trying to create a fascinating new product for people to buy. I mean, they claim it's a cross between a rabbit and a human. Their packages come with an LED heart monitor and an IV feeding tube. Of course...

meaning that when a unit appears to be "expiring" they can just reset the gauge. I doubt this will work, as it's just a bit freakish. I guess they hope to create a demand before they are released and then sell a lot at one time. Who knows, dumber things have worked.

We grew up with snakes, as my father always had at least four at any given time. When I was born he had to get rid of his 8-foot boa. He actually lost a snake in the house (milk snake), and he set little traps for it to come back, but after about a month we figured it had died.

6 months later--- I kid you not--- I saw the snake slithering across my floor (when I lived with my parents), and I just about had a heart attack. I mean, I'm not afraid of snakes, but to have one just appear in your house is freaky. Dad took it, nursed it back to health, and it was fine.

His eyes were dusty and his tongue was dry as it just hung out. Poor thing. Snakes can go for months without eating, so I guess he was lucky.

Here is my snake story.

The snake I have now is my third snake, my first snake got away, and 2 weeks later, I saw him all bloody on the floor next to a cat, the cat ran off when I got there, and when I picked up the snake, he chomped my finger (he was still very small, so it didn't hurt. I put him away. Then three months later he escaped again, and was never found.

But I never know how he was escaping. The protective cover was on tightly, it was always closed, and it always had the reptile lamp on top of it, so I was truly cluless when the next snake I got escaped too.

2 YEARS later I found the snake outside and he was 4 1/2 feet long (when I got him and he escaped he was less then one foot). I took him in, and cleaned off his wounds and put him in a new big cage. I went on vacation to Oregon, and came back to a dead snake, so I got another, along with duct tape, a very beefy top to the cage, and wrapped it up, and now I still have a snake, alive and well.

By the way, the pics are here: http://www.twinkeemedia.com/images/other
Sorry about the image size, didn't have any compression software on my pc. The cd in the pic is a size comparison, not something I leave in there.

I always knew corn snakes loved to escape, but the snakes everyone seems to talk about have some sort of miracle power.

Quote: "But I never know how he was escaping. The protective cover was on tightly, it was always closed, and it always had the reptile lamp on top of it."
that just baffles me, unless of course you had big air holes so that the snake could squeeze through it.
