Just finally finished this now. It's taken me a few weeks due to having to resequence different time signatures into 4/4. .. but I think it was worth it.

DISCLAIMER: I crown this my most discusting moment of pure sell out profanity. This is a drum'n'bass remix of Holst - Mars, which is a complete and utter travesty of justice. I have taken one of the great classical tunes of all time - a tune of powerful imagery, and turned it into a drum'n'bass track. For such a sin, I should be condemned to hell. Doing this remix is on par with locking your mother outside in the back garden when its snowing, and then pointing at her and laughing while warming your hands by the fire. I do have a deep respect for classical music, yet I still defiled this tune for my own personal gain. For that I appologise.

Right, now if you're not fussed about a great work of genius being butchered by a lowly electronic musician, dig in! It's not amazing, but it's a fun listen.

I think it sounds pretty cool.

I can't give you any critics since I don't know anything about music.

Thanks man. You don't need to be a music critic to enjoy it. It's just supposed to be a bit of fun. It was more of a technical challenge than anything.

I cant put myself through this again...

haha only kidding!

For those of you who don't know what kinda crap he went through to do this, he changed a mix meter song written in 5/4 and 3/4 into a 4/4 drum n bass tune. 5/4 is hard to wrap your head around any day.

I haven't downloaded it yet but I can't wait to hear the continuation of that sample

EDIT: wow this is a jewel .

the only thing I don't like is that you turned down the melodies a bit. They seem muted . Holst e-mailed me personally and told me to tell you to turn it up or he woould kill you and your family.

That's fine. I would be honoured to have Holst murder my family.

Do you mean the orchestral pieces are a bit quiet? If so, that's probably because I'm overly concious about the drums biting through the mix these days, else you can't hear them to mix! Not that this will ever grace a slab of vinyl, but eh. I hear your point. Next time I massacre an orchestral tune, I'll pump the orchesta.

5/4 is sexy... shoulda kept it that way

Bass is really heavy, perhaps a bit too heavy considering how the current trend is to slam the bass up to +12 on the floor... but ehh, who cares, it's still pretty cool. Missing those big drum breaks though. Considering why (and how) you made it though, I think it's brilliant.

Have a couple of beers on me

Sorry dude... You know I'm usually complimentry about your stuff - especially considering that I'm not a DnB fan - but I'm gonna break the mould here.

I think this is like DJ Otzo for Drum n Bass.

Don't know who this Otzo guy is either, but I assume due to the context, he is a massive gorrila with pink eye shadow who dances around in a clown costume (i.e. embaressing and best avoided).

heh, i actually thought it was quite groovy, not your best work, but good none the less. This track would fit a frantic FPS / 3rd person game or scene demo imho. The way the tune has so many sections makes it ideal for this. you should look around on scene.org or pouet.net for some demoscene based realtime VJ / demo designer prods m8, then whack some visuals in there like a music vid and upload those, i'm sure your skills will shine through in that area too.
