Hello all, I was just wondering is it possible to open the included models(ones that came with Fps Creater) in 3ds max? I have 3ds max 8 and would really like to edit some of those models any help is appreciated.

Just convert the model into .3ds or .obj; max should be able to import one of those.

3ds is max's native format, so if you get it into 3ds, it will work perfect, exept that i dont think the 3DS format supports animation, so you will lose animation data and have to re-reig the models.

and aside from that, most converters out there dont keep UV data either, so you may have to re uv map them

I have personally imported several models into 3DS Max via conversion in Deep Exploration (only the trial), with mixed results. Applying textures (ie. Keeping UV Data) has only worked on a minority of the models, but on some nonetheless.

I suggest downloading the Deep Exploration trial as it really is quite useful for things like this.

I've opened some objects from the FPSC files in Ultimate Unwrap 3D before and they retained their UV Maps.

The character models included with FPSC are in binary compressed .x format, which Deep Exploration (and other programs)have a hard time reading.

But you can get a .x importer for max at maxplugins.de

@keith

ya, that retains uv, but looses animation. and some programs are the opposite. i have yet to find a program that retains both.

Yeah, I did hear that UU3D had problems with bones and animations; up till now I've only been dealing with static objects.
