Here is a model that I have spent many hours apply manual poly reduction to. I used MakeHuman for the basic mesh reference and the imported it into Blender to create the actual character. For those of you who use MakeHuman you know what I am talking about by using it only as a Mesh reference tool. It took me a little while to mdel the robe and hood, I still have to add some vertices to the arms so they do not distort during animation. Please tell me what you think. If you are posting to simply say that I cheated by using MakeHuman as a referance then save your breath Because I could really careless.

here is a rear view.

through manualy reducing the polys I have learned alot about how a model should be put together. MakeHuman is a great program for people like me who will probably never learn how to model organic things. But I do not recommend using that program to solely create your characters. You should always try to redue the model so it fits your needs.

lol, I think there are far more evils in this world. Though I hope this model turns out good when I attempt to UVmap it.

@Bond1- I am trying to keep up with your skill Bond. But that is impossible. You wouldn't happen to have a texturing tutorial you could Email me do you?

I understand somethings about texturing but lack the ability or even the know how to start texturing skin and cloth. I did find a good tutorial in the 3 Demensional talk board here on these forums.

I have it sitting next to me right now. A CD comes with it; it's pretty thorough (though I have yet to get through it), and the pictures are all in color for a change. It's absolutely geared towards game graphics. I'm glad I bought it. The CD has textures, and a demo of Photoshop CS and Gentica.

I have Luke Arhean's book, it's good. But my favorite texturing book isn't even aimed at creating game art. I'ts called "How to Cheat in Photoshop". It's aimed at the photo-montage artist, but there is just so many cool things in there that can be applied to game art as well.

Luke Ahern's book is aimed at totally using photoshop to create textures. "How to Cheat..." is more about using every trick in the book to get the end result.

I will search for it when I get home. I am interested at getting better with texture creating. Like I said above I can do some textures but alot of the organic stuff eludes me at this point. I do not understand the skin texture at all and I think I found a fix for the cloth texture. I guess I will create some and let you all be the judges. Oh yeah the model at the top of this thread is going to be the main boss of Ren: Tranquility lost.

I love that book, it is probably the best-written book of its type. Easy to follow, quick and to the point. And has a very good tutorial section in the first chapter that really explains the fundamentals of being able to work quickly in photoshop.

the head is going to be reduced even further. Remember that I said I used the MakeHuman program as a reference? I still have to re-model the head. as it stands now the mesh is way to difficult for me to UVmap. and beside I do not like the overall look of the face.

With a little tinkering and a great tutorial this is what I came up with for a cloth type texture, though I added a film grain to the overall image to give it the actualy cloth texture.

these forums have changed drastically. I remember when people were willing to give crit. but 274 views and barely 32 total messages. This is sad.

Sorry, I'm on the hunt for people who are not being good community members half the time. It looks pretty good, but wouldn't the blood bleed through the sheet a bit?

-Keith, I have to add another layer for the blood on the sheet or remove the sheet and add the blood and then add the sheet as a top layer with 30 or 45% opacity. I will fix this tonight.

I like the corpse! I think it's good enough but you should remove a little blood from the chest and make it grey like a frozen corpse.

Yeah there are a few things that I have to do as far as the texture goes. I am going to do the following:

1. remove the blood on the body and add a sickly gang green/blue color, and then re-add the blood for effect instead of the over powering drowning blood look it currently has.
2. saturate the sheet with blood, and pull the sheet texture to the ground and perhaps add a grey tint to it so it doesnt look so silky.
3. animate the model so it's still twitching (there will be a non animated version as well.

I like all your models with the exception of the "corpse". I guess that the corpse is not yet finished and it wouldn't be right to comment on how it looks. But I would say this:

I'd like to see some textures that show various stages of decay. The 1 you have created looks fresh - what with the blood 'n' all... It could be that muscle definition - like Hellraiser - would do the trick!

I can see that you know your stuff! If you could do some tutorials that would be awesome!

Done!

That "MakeHuman" plug-in looks to be pretty interesting. Hmmm... Would it be an idea to use a poly reduction software, then import it into MilkShape?

I have done that but it still feels wrong using it for the actualy games stuff. for cut scenes it could prove very usefull though.
