The type of 2D graphics where you see everything from a 45 degree angle so two sides and the top is visible. I just can't remember the name...

Isn't that 3D?

He means in a game like Diablo. It's an isometric view of the world, rendered in 2D.

This is totally unimportant, but the angle is 30 degrees .

But yeah, the actual rendering is 2D, but you could almost call it "Faux 3D" since it does at least convey a sense of depth.

45 degress is an auxiliary view, 30 degrees is an isometric view. Diablo, Head Over Heels, Knightlore were all isometric - Ultima 7 I think was auxiliary.

I think the "Artists Challenge" Thread on the DBP Forum had a load of isometric graphics - things like buildings, etc...

ultima 8 was isometric, 7 was a slightly iso one, but more of the top down feel so I'd say auxillary. loved u8. love isometric. loved the isometric version of syndicate remastered

You can mess with DBPro's projection matrix to make it render everything isometric - rather handy as you can position everything normally in the 3d world, and get it rendered isometrically without worrying about occlusion, etc

What I meant with 45 degrees is the rotation of the game. So instead of moving vertically and horrisontally you move diagonally.

BTW, looking at the fantastic drawings of Ant Atack I found, isometric tiles should be two times as wide as they are high. Sometime in the future I'm going to add isometric view to SGT.

No - Ant Attack is about 5 years older and 8-bits younger than Populous.
