Sorry to call you out directly TinkerGirl. In your sticky thread called "Level Design Theory:Tutorial/Tips" at this address: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=61947&b=19

(which was an excellent thread btw, thank you for putting that info together) I wanted to know what software you used to make those simple 3d level layouts like you did for "The Funnel" on the first page of the thread, and for "The Volcano" and "Hiding World Edges" examples on the second page. You mentioned Microsoft Visio as a good tool in the 3rd step of your explanation post on the four steps of making a level on the first page of the thread.

I agree about your statement that level pre-design in 2d can result in flatness, and your images really helped me visualize your level layouts. So i wanted to make sure that was visio that you used before I went out and got it.

I posted this question at the end of your level design post, but because it was so old and it was stickied to the top of the thread list, i didn't think it would get noticed so I'm reposting. My apologies to all if I handled this improperly.

Oh tinker girl where art thou...wouldst thou marry me tinkergirl

If I recall correctly, Tinker girl uses 3D studio max...unless she used something else for the tutorials, looking at the screenies, I think that maybe so. Or another kind of render software.

@Zotoaster & Oddmind: TinkerGirl doesn't have any contact information, for instance, an email, in his/her profile. Of course I looked for that first. So I tried this. If this doesn't work, i'll try to find a recent thread either started by TG or one that TG recently posted in and ask my question again. I wanted to ask this question in the proper forum first.

(-, -?) ,V.. Peace

Gyrich: If you were to bother looking at Tinker's website linked beneath each of her posts, you would have found her email, instead of starting a thread addressing just one person.

I've not seen Tinkergirl for about a week and a half now, last I heard though she had planned a holiday to Japan. I assume she's having fun.

I lay upon my bed one bright clear night, and gazed upon the distant stars far above, then I thought... where the hell is my roof?

Yep... I have no idea where that is. I assume somewhere in Japan, but my geographic knowledge is pretty much limited to my living room.

LOL my apologies to all, for making this post.

@Megaton Cat: I did in fact go to the website in her profile; it was the only information in her profile. I hunted around on the site but, silly me, i was looking for an obvious email address, or "contact me" page.

You're right, her email address is indeed there. All I had to do is click the "To Whom it May Concern..." link. I did this when I looked on her site the first time (before making this post) and didn't see any obvious signs of a link or the customary "@" symbol for an email. I didn't think i'd have to read through the site to find her email address, which is written as follows:

"Tinkergirl at Mad Scientist (no spaces,) dot co(mpany) dot U(nited)K(ingdom)"

It's so obvious.

Well, what can I say - I dislike spam Having an easy to find email address is not something I aim for - so sorry Gyrich for making you jump through hoops. Kenjar was correct, however - I was in Japan (no offers from the Yakuza, Megaton - I assume they're shy). It was ace (but I'm very tired now, after 28hrs travelling).

I used Sketchup for the diagrams in the Level Design Tips thread - it's very useful for very quickly messing with the shapes of a level in 3d. There's even a button you press to simulate walking around at eye height (with rudimentry collision - not ideal, but hey - it's quick). If you find paper maps come out too 2d, then Sketchup is handy for adding that 3d ness. (And it looks pretty. )

Thanx for the assistance, and I wholeheartedly agree that the goggles are, indeed, cool.

Everyone seems to be using that, i think i should start too.

I want to go to japan too. Actually, that's one of my goals, congrats on getting there. The yakuza could be (those are the japanese gangsters, right?).

Wow, this forum is fun.

Yes, I was on the mainland - did the Tokyo-Hakone-Kyoto route (with a go on the shinkansen). Would have fancied going to Okinawa (I hear it's very different - especially the lovely people) but a friend who was also going to Japan (for the second time) looked into it for himself and found he'd waste a whole day waiting for transport and connections to get over there. On a time limited budget like we had, it wasn't really practical. So we did the tourist hotspots

Would have been nice to meet you (and your wife?) but hey - maybe when my good luck charm runs out after a year, I'll have to renew

Wiggett - you're too good for me. You should give up on me as there's no way I'd ever be able to survive in your magnificent shadow. Out there, there's a girl for you - but I am not, and probably never be, worthy of the 'Great and Mighty Cyberpink-Pirate-King Wiggett's attention. I'd be deluding myself if I thought otherwise.

(That's a no, by the way )

Haha That's Tinkergirl's nice way of saying "Get lost"

If I were pressed for time, I'd certainly cut Okinawa out of my trip. It is a nice place to visit, some nice historical sites, nice people, and nice weather and landscape. It's the countryside of Japan. But, for a vacation, I'd probably party it up in Tokyo.

The Okinawans aren't even really Japanese, they even look totally different. All of the guys from WWII still speak their native language.

I have never been off this continent......and ive only been in 3 countires.... The closest I get to going to other countries is reading books and seeing videos or pictures.
Some of my relatives and friends come back and brag about their (vacation) trip to Jamacia or Greece....

Sounds like you had fun tinkerbell, any good pictures?

It's not bell - it's girl. If I wanted to be Tinkerbell, I think that I'd find the name wasn't currently used *queue Megaton or someone creating an alt or temporary namechange as Tinkerbell*

And yes - I've got over 400 or so photos - I'm too intimidated by the sheer volume of them to actually upload them onto the computer yet! Got to strip out the rubbish doublers though - I'm sure about a quarter will be horribly blurry at least.

Yes - oops on the Cyberpink typo - I'm sure Wiggett will know what I mean.

Rofl the funniest think till now. Oh and Congrats CashCurtis for being a Japanese, you guys rule technology. Mind getting me a free Ps3 for that? Ill pay for shipping!

PS: Utada Hikaru is pretty good. I think it was called Passion or something. I like the idea that billions of semi naked drummers drum the same piece over and over again (I listened, I didnt watch ofcourse )

Dream Theater, on the other hand, of course, should be your number one "Tshoys"
